Nope. It really depends on the will power of the person attempting vegetarianism. And it really isn't just salads we eat (what you mentioned above is actually a vegan) there is a variety of options out there for us.

I, too, have nothing against meat-eaters (ha! my mom's one). You do what you think is best for yourself.

People are poop - well said.

We don't eat only salads like what some others have said. Depending on where we stay, vegans also have access to non-animal products such as mock cheese, meat, milk. There are also tons of junk foods which are vegan.

I personally don't find the smell of meat tempting after a few years as a vegan. So it isn't really that hard.

I'm vegan; I don't eat salads.
I don't eat junk food either. It really tastes bad, and if you'd eat better in general, your tastebuds would recognize this fact. I know, because I use to eat very badly, and I couldn't taste anything that wasn't full of salt, sugar, and highly flavoured. Vegetables tasted flavourless and disgusting (also depends on cooking technique and quality of ingredients).

If you actually start cooking for yourself, you will realize that there are lots of foods and dishes out there. Last time I had a salad was probably last summer -- stuff from our garden. Anyway, there's a whole world out there that most people don't even realize exists and it's full of vegan foods. How many different kinds of apples have you tried? You can get maybe 4 or 5 different kinds in the store, but actually, there are hundreds of varieties around and all have their own unique taste, texture, size, colour, etc. Have you tried those ones that are red on the inside? Just imagine, this is the same for literally every fruit, vegetable, bean, legume, grain, and so forth. In your whole life you'd never be able to sample it all. In the last year alone I've tried all sorts of interesting foods and that's the way it is every year for the last 17 years (since becoming vegan). You'd be amazed at just how great a simple potato tastes when taken fresh from your own garden and directly to the kitchen. So, start gardening. Order some seeds of things you've never tried, seen, or heard of before, and let the experiences start. Otherwise, it's just the same old crap from the stores. Furthermore, we are constantly looking to other countries and cultures for more interesting foods, recipes, dishes etc. Check out the 'ethnic' markets and meet people from other countries. We went to my co-worker's home for a vegan dinner they prepared for us. They are from Iran and everything was traditional Iranian dishes. Everything was very good, interesting, and none we had tried before. Even the rice was interesting because they use a differnet method to cook it. That was about 6 new dishes for us just a one meal. Obviously you are the one missing out.

No, I don't get tired of eating fruit and veggies. They are delicious and good for me. I don't eat hardly any junk food...I've done some reading and research about processed food such as potato chips, candy bars and fast food. That stuff absolutely DESTROYS the body! I rarely get temptations because just being around certain foods makes me nauseous.
Good question, though!

I'm an ovo-lacto vegearian so I eat dairy and eggs but I really don't miss any of the meat or junk food.

How could you enjoy spooning down buckets of greese or chowing down on a chunk of lard? I guess when you just don't grow up fed a bunch of junk then you really don't miss it.

When people quit smoking cigarettes though most miss it for a little bit, but they know its better and eventually as their body adjusts they don't miss it at all. Meat is no different.

Salads are not all I eat, I eat pasta with pesto, brucchetta, pad thai, bagels, cereal, grilled vegetable sandwichies, stuffed mushrooms, spaggetti, lasagna, grilled portabella mushrooms, stir fry with rice, soup, casseroles, calzone, veggie enchiladas, pizza, ravioli, falafel gyros, vegetable hot pot, hebed rice, macaroni, souffle, pasta salad, pancakes, waffels, mousse, cakes, pie, brulee, and a whole lot more.

I guess it has to do with whether you want to make yourself something other then a salad to eat or not :P

I have to be honest. I stopped eating certain foods because of health reasons... And when I go to certain restraunts, I just want to scream. Okay, other than a steak house, there should be at least two to three things on the menu that contain no meat.
Even a salads at fast food places contains chicken. That's crazy.
So, yes, it drives me crazy. That is why I have not given up eating seafood. At least it gives me an option almost anywhere. I'd rather be all vegitarian...

I do not only eat salads. I eat many things, they just do not have animal products in them. I like to eat chips and Frito's and stuff like that. I just make sure there are no animal products in them first. It is very easy not to eat meat, dairy, eggs, and other animal products.

It is NOT only salads. Vegetarian lasagna and pasta, breads, cakes, tarts, pancakes, waffles, pies of many sorts, bean, pea & lentil dishes. You can make something different every day for a month, easily. Roast potato, pumpkin, carrot and parsnip, or turnip. Sweetcorn. Fried onion rings. Popcorn and maple syrup. Nutloaf. Vegetarian steaks. Chocolate. Tofu with chilli & soy. etc. Many Indian and Asian dishes, not just fried rice and curries, and many many more. African foods too, and polenta, and.............

You're thinking of vegans. I'm a veggie and I'm eating cheese right now.

For the record, I've got nothing against meat eaters (my wife's one), I firmly believe in each to their own.

Ignore the two idiots above me. I can't stand people trrying to force their opinions down other people's throats.
