i really wanted the exact biochemical reason why triglycerides tend to be higher in insulin-resistant people

Normal Values of Triglycerides
* Normal: Less than 150 mg/dL
* Borderline High: 150-199 mg/dL
* High: 200-499 mg/dL
* Very High: 500 mg/dL or above
What abnormal results mean
High triglyceride levels may be associated with a higher risk for heart disease and stroke. This is especially true because people with high triglycerides often have other conditions, such as diabetes and obesity, that increase the likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease.
High triglyceride levels may indicate:
* Cirrhosis
* Familial hyperlipoproteinemia (rare)
* Hypothyroidism
* Low protein in diet and high carbohydrates
* Poorly controlled diabetes
* Nephrotic syndrome
* Pancreatitis
Thus it is seen that elevated triglycerides is one of the causes including poorly controlled diabetes.
Changes in lifestyle habits are the main therapy for hypertriglyceridemia. These are the changes you need to make:
•If you're overweight, cut down on calories to reach your ideal body weight. This includes all sources of calories, from fats, proteins, carbohydrates and alcohol.
•Reduce the saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol content of your diet.
•Reduce your intake of alcohol considerably. Even small amounts of alcohol can lead to large changes in plasma triglyceride levels.
•Be physically active for at least 30 minutes on most or all days each week.
•People with high triglycerides may need to substitute monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats — such as those found in canola oil, olive oil or liquid margarine — for saturated fats. Substituting carbohydrates for fats may raise triglyceride levels and may decrease HDL ("good") cholesterol in some people.
•Substitute fish high in omega-3 fatty acids instead of meats high in saturated fat like hamburger. Fatty fish like mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna and salmon are high in omega-3 fatty acids.

I guess most of these people have already given you good answers, but I want to reinforce it, since I have been a type I diabetic for almost 12 years. Type I diabetics can eat anything as long as they count the number of carbs in it and then take the appropriate amount of insulin to cover it. The only thing I don't do is drink regular (non-diet) pop. Maybe this person just happens to be diabetic and allergic to shellfish?

high blood sugar levels cause a state for chronic inflammation in the body. this along with other metabolic facotrs changes not only the number of triglycerides but teh compostion of them too.. they tend to be "tubby" bigger so to speak. regular exercise and diet chages can minimize this change. its the age old advice, less red meat, more fish (especialy high omega fatty acid fish) more veggies..and stay away from transfats and processed foods with highfructose corn syrup and high sodium.

triglycerides are made up of 2 parts fat and 1 part sugar.

diabetes related to inadequete insulin secretion, insulin related to sugar control, so when diabetes affects, sugar level goes out of control so it results in to adipose tissue(fat) and more un utilised sugar results in to the fat and triglecerides.
