I need a pharmacist to help me out--very severe!!?
my doctor prescribed a cough medicine for my 124 pound old 10 year old but when i got home, i checked on the label of the cough medicine that it should not be given to children under 16 years of age because it causes very fatal breathing problems
the name of the medicine has codeine in it..its called permathazine i believe

children do not need codeine either. Your doctor be dumn (I'd tell him so ! ) children only need mild sleep assistance from a regular cough medicine ordinary over the counter.
Go with a generic brand minus that hardcore codeine. Your doctor has given you a prescription without true thought to wellbeing of child; done this to get money out of you !
For If cough was not severe-severe then this drug codeines not necessary ! codeine foremost be a sleep agent ! That one pill of gets overly groggy an adult and two pills knocks out an adult.
The cough suppressant ability be disputed.

Promethazine (or Phenergan) is actually an antihistamine that acts as an anti-nausea/ cough suppresant. The usual Pediatric dose (when used for nausea and vomiting) is between 6 to 12.5 mg. The dose contained in the cough medicine is probably within that range. Promethazine will make your child feel drowsy. Make sure he gets plenty of fluids and plenty of rest. My daughter is 45 pounds and 6 yrs old, and she can tolerate Promethazine without any problems.

124 lbs is considered an adult weight....that is why the doc prescribed it for your child....there have been no adverse reactions reported for a child of that adult weight.
promethazine w/ codeine is the generic name for PHENERGAN WITH CODEINE.....it is a very good and effective medication....if you still are uncomfortable please by all means call the pharmacist at the store where you puchased this medication......or call the doctor back and discuss this issue with him/her.....i personally would not be concerned, but everyone is different.

as long as he didnt overdose, meaning "drank the whole bottle," and isnt allergic then he will be fine. Promethazine. He will just become sleepy from the codeine as well as the promethazine.....just keep an eye on him. Promethazine is a concern in infants as well as some toddlers because of respiratory depression.....slows it down a little.

it is the most commonly prescribed cough medicine in the country. It is used on kids every day. What dose is your son getting. You conveniently left that out.

Its PROMETHAZINE rite? Its been used for hyper sensitive childeren and promethazine is JUST FOR PEADIATRIC USE FOR vomiting . and codeine is also not a problem. give it in a prescibed doses (5ml 3 times a day). But do not exxed doses ok?

I'm by no means a pharmacist, but promethazine with codine is safe to use if there are no other conditions health wise. My daughter uses it and she has been fine, no problems.

124 pounds is an adult weight, so he is well able to handle the dose. Dose is determined by body weight not age.
