What does each number mean?

Blood pressure is 145/82 and the pulse is 82 heart beats per minute.

The 145 is the pressure it takes your blood to push the blood through your vascular system while you have it restricted (while taking your Blood Pressure) the 82 is the least amount of pressure needed to fully flow through the veins without pressure.

If the top number is too high it means there is too much resistence in the vascular walls. & so on.........

Stina,

Where did you get this reading?

This is a blood pressure reading, but the last two numbers might not be quite accurate, unless the last one is the pulse rate. In that case it means a pulse of 82 beats per minute.

Let's say that the blood pressure number is 145/85, which is probably the case. These two numbers represent the pressure of blood in your veins and arteries. The first number, the "systolic" (SIS-tol-ik), is the pressure of your actual heartbeat. When your heart beats, this is the pressure in your arteries. The number is rated in "millimeters of mercury," which means that the force of the heart's beat will support a column of mercury 145 millimeters high. The second number means that the static pressure in the arteries will support a column of mercury 85 mm high.

The second number, the "diastolic" (DI-uh-stol-ik) (the first "I" is long) is the pressure of the blood in your arteries when your heart relaxes, the pressure between beats.

A normal, healthy blood pressure would be just below 120/80. After this blood pressure is called "pre-high blood pressure," and would be up to 139/89. Between 120/80 and 139/89 is not quite "high," but it should make us really careful.

High blood pressure is anything higher than that.

This blood pressure reading means that the person with this pressure should start dieting, reducing salt intake, exercising, and possibly taking blood pressure medication, because the pressure is high enough to be concerned about.

High blood pressure is dangerous, for it indicates the presence of either disease (like coronary artery disease), or the risk of stroke or heart attack or what is called "atrial fibrillation," in which the top two chambers of the heart try to beat so fast that they stop beating as a unit and start quivering. When they do that they can no longer pump blood into the bottom chambers so those chambers can pump it out into the rest of the body. .

There are many ways to lower high blood pressure through diet, exercise, and prescription drugs, and many people with treated high blood pressure that normalizes it live long and healthy lives.

I hope this helps.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

145-systolic blood pressure.
85-diastolic blood pressure.
82-pulse rate.
If the above assumptions are correct, you have got Stage 1 Hypertension. The same can be controlled by diet, exercise and drugs.
Please see the web pages for more details on Blood pressure, Pulse and Arterial hypertension.
