COPD is a respiratory disorder. While it is at this time not curable, there are treatments that can help. One treatment is once daily Advair, which can help make breathing easier.

While there are a lot of ways to treat it, including fast-acting inhalers, pills, and other things, your doctor can help you if you have it, or if someone you know has it.

In the later stages it requires oxygen and can also, in the very end, require help from hospice. I can't assure you that it is a painless death because in essence, someone with COPD generally suffocates to death. However, it is generally quick. Many people with COPD choose, when they are coming to an end, to sign DNRs or Do Not Ressucitate orders so that doctors cannot try to keep them alive if they flatline.

Many people get COPD from smoking for long periods in their lifespan, but other causes are possible.

My grandmother has been suffering from COPD for quite awhile and it often includes coughing fits and intense chest pain.
