I need to know what vegetables are starches, the client I take care of is a diabetic and I need to know what the starchy veggies are so that I don't send his blood sugar through the roof. And also, what are foods that contain carbohydrates.

Hello:

These vegetables are starches and should be eaten in moderation especially if a person is a diabetic!

Corn, potatoes, rice, pasta, white bread, white flour,etc... Try to get your diabetic client to eat fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein such as chicken, fish, turkey and salads with vegetables and salad dressing on the side is an excellent choice too.

Although some fruits are a good snack choice, apples are full of sugar and I would have your client eat other fruits such as grapes,bananas,raisins,etc.. Starches make a person's blood sugar rise very quickly and it also makes their insulin level go up too! Whole wheat foods make the blood sugar and insulin levels rise more slowly, and the person is less like to crash or burn after they eat a whole wheat pasta,macaroni,bread,pretzels,etc...

A diabetic has to be very careful of carbohydrates too, because it will make their blood sugar rise very quickly, and could cause potential problems in a person who has diabetes. That is why there are so many low fat and sugar free products out on the market for diabetics to choose from, because it is much safer for them to eat low sugar, low carbohydrate foods.I know with my grandma for instance, she has diabetes and she is on a very strict diet that has a certain amount of,"good,"carbs allowed everyday and she has sugar free puddings,Jello, cookies, etc to help when she needs something sweet to eat, when she craves a treat.

A snack is not to be a meal replacement and diabetics typically have to eat more often than people who don't have diabetes because their blood sugar levels will drop very drastically if they don't eat every so few hours. I hope that this has been helpful for you and good luck with your client!! ;-) P.S.you could always check online for websites for diabetics and what types of foods and diets are good for them,or you could talk to a dietician and they could help you set up some really good meal and snack ideas for your client too! ;-)

It could mean that there are starches present in vegetable oil, but oil is most definitely not a starch. There are other chemicals that react to iodine in a similar manner, however.

Corn and potatoes mostly. If you are a type 1 just adjust your insulin, if you are a type 2 you will want to eat these in moderation.
