I suffered a stroke during my last pregnancy. My blood pressure has been Ok as well as my cholesterol level, but I am living under constant stress. Is this a key factor to cause another stroke? I am visiting the doctor about once a year. So far I have been OK.

It seems that perhaps your stress induced a migraine or other irregular neurological activity which subsequently inhibited blood flow to the brain, resulting in necrosis a la stroke.

So, I wouldn't necessarily conclude that stress is a direct cause of stroke, but there may a correlation, meaning that some other confounding variable, such as the likelihood of a damaging cephalalgia (headache) or similar occurrence within a patient, that effects the stroke.

By that token, we see that still, there are many factors to consider when considering stroke, and they aren't just cholesterol and blood pressure. I wish you good luck, and make sure you check with your doctor a lot and relax to avoid stress, although be careful always for yourself and baby.

Yes, stress can induce the conditions that could lead up to a stroke or a heart attack. Tension can cause the veins and arteries to react in different ways. Our bodies all have the fight or flight response. What you should do is see your doctor regularly and invest in a BP cuff. If your stress is affecting your blood pressure( making it go up), then you are at risk of another stroke. Keep a record of your blood pressures, record them daily, and take the record of BPs to your MD the next time you go.

Yes in this so called advanced civilisation, STRESS IS A MAJOR CAUSE OF STROKE, you are lucky not to have a major castrophe, I am pretty sure could have been a TIA, it comes and goes.
Did you have an CT SCAN done? It will remove all your doubts.
You are in perfect health, as I come across 10 to 20 patients daily, meanwhile stay in touch with your doctor.
One last thing ask your doctor/obstetrician regarding your BP in future pregnancies OK.(write it down in note book).

Stress definitely can cause a stroke. But it can be more serious. Excessive stress kills everyday. While some stress is unavoidable, constantly dousing yourself in it can lead to serious physical and/or mental problems. I recommend that you seek out help. There are many therapists that can help you.

I hope you get this resolved, I know first hand how damaging excessive stress really is.

The worst part of this is that you are walking and sleeping with a lot of worry ABOUT your stress and what it can do to you.........you HAD a stroke! Going to a counselor about this is really your answer..............since you are not pregnant at this time, a little bit of a medication to lower your stress level is probably your best bet. Try natural St. John's wart first...........to see if that alleviates your stress and/or depression.

My feeling is that you are young...and, you have many stressors, you have people depending upon you..and, you have had a stress in the past.

We all have stress...is a part of life..but, HOW we Handle it is OUR problem...

you need to learn how to de-stress...you need to place things in categories...what is more important...1.2.3.4...and, then put it together.

You WILL not have another stroke...your just over worried...if you were that bad...the dr..would have wanted to see you more than once per year...

dont worry...please...your going to be fine..just find some fun or somthing to laugh about...

If other factors are present, then it is possible. You'll need to find ways to lower your stress level.

Good luck!
