Not an STD. These nasty little diseases are sexually transmitted as their name states. When outside the body they are very wimpy and die within moments. Some people have claimed to catch "crabs" from toilet seats. That is very unlikely, as they need a warm moist surface and a toilet seat is cold and hopefully dry.
Still, it is not a good practice to sit on a public toilet seat. Use the covers provided or line it with toilet paper. Just good hygiene. Also, I flush before going to ensure "fresh" water in case of splashes. The bowl may still harbor germs if not regularly cleaned, but it makes me feel better all the same.

No. This is a huge myth.
You can not get ANY STD from a toilet seat. STDs are spread by sex - not toilet seats. You need to have some sort of sexual contact with a person who has an STD in order to get it.
STDs are almost always contracted by sex (vaginal, oral and anal) or by direct skin to skin contact with he infected area (herpes and HPV). Babies can also be born with STDs if the mother has one but this is pretty rare.
I personally have genital herpes and HPV and have had them for 6 years. I lived with my parents and brothers for a few of those years and NONE of them ever contracted either virus from me by using the toilet after me. Even friends, boyfriends and other family members that have come over and used the bathroom after me NEVER got either virus from me. STDs are just not spread that way.

Of course you can. Ever heard of the Yellow poisen dart frog? Well, if a dog walks in the same place where that frog has been, theres an 89% chance of the dog dying due to the many toxins left from the frog.
There are approximately 1 million bacteria in one mililetre of water, quoted from Wikipedia.
Public toilets however, I wouldn't go as far as saying you could catch STD's, it really depends if the genital area of the male/female have touched the seat, and ones come and done the same, resulting in a somewhat desease? Possible.

Yes, but only if it the bacteria has not dried. Keep in mind that you are more likely to catch something like the back of cab and seats at movie theaters, ice cubes. Your clothes protect you from these germs, however, you should keep in mind that if you take a cab to a restaurant and eat your food with your hands you are digesting whatever you just touched in the cab. I always keep purell and lotion with me so my hands don't get dry

There's always the chance of bacteria on public toliets, because people are FILTHY!~ People miss when they go. A.I.D.S doesn't live outside of it's host's blood for more than the time it takes for the blood to dry. Other STDS don't live on surfaces, only in fluids that are moist. Crabs and lice like warmth and skin cells to eat. The chances are slim to none. But I wouldn't sit anyway!

Unlikely for sure, but possible. The freedom of information act released a separate study on Aids and within it was listed the very real possibility of contracting aids from a mosquito bite (for example) if it previously victimized an aids victim. Same true from kissing someone with slight bleeding gums problem (most all of us). The aids virus us exceedingly hearty compared with other contagions. It can survive alive and exposed on surfaces for days... so, best advice, use a barrier between yourself and the toilet... paper covers, or toilet paper... or wait til you get home if possible.

no. this is a myth. you can't catch anything from public toilets, unless you decide to actually sit IN one, and even then, you probably wouldn't.

Yes, you can. That is why, in some places, they have paper protectors to put on the seat. If you, have time, you can wipe the seat with a wet paper towel and some of the hand soap it helps. Also carrying baby wipes to clean the seat helps.
