Does anyone out there agree with me that the seaweed salad you get at Japanese restaurants (usually served in a sesame dressing) is absolutely disgusting & tastes the way bloated dead bodies at low tide smell? I cannot eat this stuff. I've tried many times & just can't get passed the low-tide taste. Ugh. I have to spit it out every time & usually start gagging. I can't possibly be the only person who feels this way! Let me hear you!

No, I don't agree. I love seaweed. There are so many kinds. I don't even know the English names: kombu, nori, wakame, etc.

Yum.

But, it really does help if you go to Japan and eat food there first. I can't imagine American style "Japanese" food is really a good intro. to real Japanese cuisine.

And sushi in North America is sometimes good, but it's so limited. It's mainly just variations of the same basic makizushi (sushi rolls). Nigirizushi, or sushi rice topped with something, is the most typical actual Japanese sushi style, with makizushi being pretty minor.

I don't particularly trust North American food handling. It's O.K., but when it comes to things like raw fish or other raw meat, things get questionable.

Japanese food is most likely the best food on the planet, especially if eaten in Japan. And there's WAY more to it than sushi, gyoza, tempura, and ramen.

Have you tried 'Hijiki" ? That's probably the best tasting one, I had it years ago but liked it.

PS: If you dont like it, dont order it anymore! You cant force yourself to like something, stick to what you enjoy.
Cant ever go wrong with tempura & spicy tuna roll.
