Has anybody ever gone to sleep with a throat lozenge in your mouth when you have a cold or a sore throat at night? Well just a word of caution. I know someone who did this this past weekend, the lozenge went down her wind pipe while she slept and even after paramedics came and they did a traik...? where they cut open your thoat to try to help you breath, she choked to death. So I know this is something I have done several times when I go to sleep and I am ill. Thought I would share this with you so no one else will die in such a needless way.

In all honesty, I never thought anyone would be that silly, to go to sleep with a cough drop in your mouth. When you are sleeping, all the muscles in your mouth and throat relax, making it impossible to hold a cough drop in a safe position. It's completely possible for that sucker to lodge in your trachea. There's a menthol throat spray that has the same effect as the cough drops, only you can't choke on it in your sleep.

Yeah I never take those cough drops at night.. or if I do I make sure its dissolved completely.
Never take one when your very sleepy this is really the first time I ever heard of anyone dying but the possibility was always there.

I really don't think it is a good idea to fall asleep with anything in your mouth. I don't care how sore your throat is- basic common sense dictates that you shouldn't fall asleep sucking on anything that will eventually shrink down to just the right size to get lodged in your trachea.

it is easy to aspirate (suck something into the lungs) while sleeping. use caution and only buy sugar free lozenges.
