I have a sinus infection, and I'm on antibiotics..what can I do in the meantime to get rid of congestion? Besides taking more medicine?

Thanks :)

I would try a saline nasal rinse (not a spray.) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean).
The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot

You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. If you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis.

My dad has had success with a neti pot that pours into your nose, irrigating your sinuses. Here is a link to store-bought solution but a doctor told me I can make my own with water, a little salt and a pinch of baking soda. http://www.nasalrinse.com/

I find that the congestion is mostly swollen nasal tissue, not mucus, so blowing and blowing just irritate the tissue more and there's often nothing to blow out. I often resort to Sudafed and the addicting spray, but meter them out because rebound swelling is terrible. If I use the spray, I spray just one nostril at bedtime so I can breath to sleep well. If I'm still stuffy the next night, I'll spray the other nostril only to help avoid rebound.

I don't believe Sudafed causes rebound and it's really effective if you can take it (I've heard that people with high blood pressure can't).

Hang in there, it's miserable, I've been there and wish you well!

Boil a pot of water. Take pot off stove and place it on table/counter. Get a towel. Bend over pot and put towel over your head. Breath in the steam...it will clear your sinus congestion.

My Dad suffers from this condition too. He finds relief in consuming lots of cough drops (non-medicated). It opens his sinuses. He also takes hot showers to find the same relief.
