Actually, many doctors and other health care providers (even my own doctor) suggest that ALL young women get the new vaccine, not just women without HPV. I would however HIGHLY suggest you talk to your doctor about this. I'm almost certain they would like to wait till after you have given birth. You don't want to take any kind of medication or get any vaccines if you can help it while you are pregnant. Getting the vaccine is NOT a cure though for people who already have HPV.

The new vaccine protects against 4 different kinds of HPV. Two that are known to cause genital warts and two that are know to cause cervical cancer. Most women don't have ALL 4 of those kinds that the vaccine protects against. So, if a woman only has one kind of HPV that the vaccine protects against and she gets the vaccine, theoretically, she should be protected against the other 3 kinds that the vaccine protects against.

I have had HPV for 6 years now. I developed cervical cancer at the age of 17 from it and I developed genital warts about a year ago from it. I STILL plan on getting the vaccine. I know that it is not a cure for me, but if I can somehow try to prevent ever going though either one of those again then I will.

You can't get the vaccine if you are pregnant. Vaccines are preventitive measures, they don't clear up something that you already have. However the vaccine does protect you against 4 strains of hpv and chances are you probally don't have all 4. it protects you against 90% of cases of genital warts and 70% of cases of cervical cancer. So after you have the baby, get vaccinated.

You can not take a vacine for a virus that has already incubated inside of you.
If you have your pap every six months and keep ahead of the virus the chances of you developing cervical cancer are low. It takes about 10 years for HPV changes to turn into cancer.
The worst you will have are Colpos.

You cannot get the vaccine if 1) pregnant, or 2) already have the virus. If you have warts then talk to your doctor about removal. He / She is the only qualified one to remove them or to ask this type of question to.
