I am so happy to hear that the surgery was a succes! As a mother of a 23 month old who has had two open heart surgerys and still awaits one more when she is 3 yrs. old. I would suggest bringing something she can do in bed. Like markers and a drawing pad, book of mazes, see if they have a DVD player in the room and give her favorite tv show or movie, V-smile (hooks up to a tv), any hand held game like leap frog or video now, clay or playto (I don't know how to spell that), a locket or something she can keep for a long time that will remind her of her strength and what she has been thru. Bravery beads is a excellent! If you go to www.braveryhearts.com you can order one for about $20 dollars and they get a new bead every time they have to go thru a medical test or whatnot, to show show how strong they are.........

I am so sorry that a child you know is having this surgery. I hope everything turns out okay, I will be praying for you and her. As far a gifts. What about one of those hand held games. A personal cd player headphones and a few cd's. books, activity books, ask the kid's mom what kind of things the child might want. Maybe something for halloween. She will be in the hospital on halloween so maybe a mask for her to wear since she won't get to dress up for halloween.

I guess, the best gift you can give her now is not to visit her. - Leaving her in aseptic condition is the best gift any well wisher can offer. We may instead end up gifting her some infection making things difficult for her. Let her rest well, recuperate and come back home, save the gifts to that date.
Wishing her a speedy return to normal life and get home at the earliest.

Of course soft cuddly stuffed animals are nice. Nice story books with pictures that people can read to her. Maybe some of the electronic hand-held games that are age appropriate for a three year old.
I hope she's up and around again soon!!!

If you go to Build a Bear workshop, you can build her a personalized stuffed animal. You even get to put a stuffed heart into the animal with all the stuffing. It's cute!

Well, Bless her heart (literally)! What a precious age! A stuffed animal to cuddle with, art supplies, and bed tray to sit up to in bed to draw. Lots of wonderful books for somebody to read to her, educational toys galore. And lots of love....(I am guessing you already do).
