its not the sugar that is harmful to diabetics but what the alcohol does. When you drink alcohol it passes through your liver when this happens your liver can not process anything else including sugar. That is how drinking alcohol can make your blood sugar drop. If you are taking medication that works with the liver no amount of alcohol is safe, if you don't then for a woman 4oz. can be safe and for a male 8 oz. can be safe. But ask your doctor first don't take my word or anyone Else's on here.

A glass of wine at dinner is generally fine, provided you do not have liver disease (many Type 2 diabetics do-Fatty Liver Disease), and you know how to monitor and treat your blood sugar levels.
Alcohol may also interact with some medications, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor prior to drinking.
Most doctors will not suggest adding wine to your diet if you do not already drink. You can also get health benefits from grape juice, and antioxidants from food items such as apples and green tea. For most people, adding some wine is beneficial, but in some cases, it may be the opposite. Please check with your doctor to be safe.
You will need to make sure your blood sugar does not fall too low if drinking.
