Been taking atenolol 25 mgs for 6 months and my blood pressure was normal for that time, but for the last week, i noticed my left hand to be weak at sometimes or hurts so i started looking at my blood pressure. so i noticed thats its averaging around 145/90 even when i am takin my medicine. is it normal that people with high blood pressure tend to have increases in strength of their med in time, by the way im late 20's so should i ask for stronger medicine?

The one thing that you will find when you are being treated for High Blood Pressure is that there is no such thing really as "normal". By that I mean we are all different and what works for some can have side effects for others etc.

My first treatment was with Amlodipine (which is a Calcium Channel Blocker) and after 2 years or so this started to give me all sorts of side effects and after talking to my Doctor we changed the meds to Lisinopril (an ACE Inhibitor) and things seem to have calmed down.

The point I am making is that it may be that you just need a change of medication and there is nothing really to worry about. Your Doctor will know best but the one thing that will help lots when you talk to him / her is if you are making real eforts in trying to get regular exercise, eat sensibly etc. The blunt truth is that if you can't take care of yourself then pills will only do so much.

The real positive side of High Blood Pressure is that unlike other diseases/conditions you can actually do something about it that is in your control. Be Positive! You can change your future and make it a much better one.

My BP readings were 216/160 when I was diagnosed and it has been in the region of 115/75 for the past few weeks.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

that weakness in your left hand could be a signal of an impending paralysis. but dont panic yet. it's too early. you can still be treated. about the atenolol it's enough, however, your condition may have progressed into something which only some tests that need to be done could tell what. see your doctor.

Only your doctor can say whether it is safe to increase a dosage of your medication. There are other factors that have to be taken into consideration when deciding whether to do that type of thing. Also make sure your doing the usual things like health diet/exercies avoid sodium and try to stay as stress free as possible

LOOK ON THE INTERNET SEARCH TOO ABOUT DIET ETC. TO HELP CONTROL AND DONT DELAY. ELEVATED BLOOD PRESSURE PUTS EXTRA STRESS ON BLOOD VESSELS AND HEART . IT BECOMES A RAT RACE IF YOU KEEP GETTING MORE STRONG MEDICINE. WITHOUT DIET ETC. ASK SOME REGISTERED PHARMACISTS FOR OPINIONS. MAKE YOUR GOAL 120/80
