I sleep with my mouth open everynight and it's really getting annoying because I get so much yucky stuff in my mouth. I've been doing this ever since I was little, but I wanted to do something about it. Like one of these days, I'm just going to tape my mouth shut so I can breathe through my nose while I sleep. But I have congenital heart disease. I asked my parents that but they were like no way, don't do that because then I can't breathe. They mean since I have CHD, i need all the oxygen I can get, and taping my mouth will make it worse to get my oxygen. Heck I can't wear contact lenses because they block the oxygen from going into my eyes and I get more tired as usual (but thats a different story)

I was just wondering if is it good or not to tape my mouth shut while i sleep and knowing the fact that i have CHD?

Thanks in advance

Don't even think about taping your mouth, I am no joking, you may even died, or wake up with a painful lack of breath. Talk to your doctor to find a better way to solve your problem, "1 person 1 life" don't mess around with your life, no second chance.

I have CHD, but don't know about your sleeping problem. I do know that you should breathe through your nose because the nose filters out the particles. But I don't think taping your mouth is the answer, maybe you have a sinus problem or that's just how you breathe. I would go your doctor and tell him your question and hopefully offer a solution. Don't take the matter in own hands and make the situation worse if you don't have too.

First of all your mother is right. You probably breathe through your mouth because your nasal passages are too narrow to allow the inflow of enough oxygen for your body requirements. You would likely still be able to breathe enough to stay alive, but maybe not enough to fall asleep and your cells would suffer and your heart would work harder. On top of that the tape would likely give you a lot of skin problems around your lips and may even tear away the tender skin of your lips when you peel it off.
You also might have terrible nightmares or acidosis, or other problems from the lack of oxygen. I think you need to let nature do what it does best and learn other ways of taking care of your mouth before you go to sleep and after you wake up. Try brushing your teeth and a mouthwash before bed along with a moisturizer on your lips. Also try not to eat for at least 2 or 3 hours before bedtime. If its really bad talk to your doctor about it.

This is by no means medical advice, but I wouldn't recommend that anyone tape his mouth closed. Talk to your doctor about a more practical and safe solution. I am sorry to hear that you have CHD. I don't know much about it, but my elder brother had an aneurysm, also congenital. Good luck and God bless...

I would definitely not tape my mouth shut. But you might want to consider a sleep study to see if you have sleep apnea. If you do you can get a CPAP machine to sleep with at night. It blows air into your nose to help you sleep and keep your airway open so there would be no chance for you to not get the air/oxygen you need to breathe. Please check it out. They do sleep studies at major teaching hospitals.

I would recomend not to tape your mouth shut, instead ask your parents to see your dr. and ask about this to them. Mabey your adnoids are enlarged and blocking your breathing so your mouth is forced open. My daughter has a CHD too....she will be 2 yrs. old in 3weeks. How old are you? Please talk with your parents and doctor about this.....

Don't tape your mouth shut. It's dangerous, especially because you feel more tired than usual just by wearing contact lenses, and quite frankly, I would feel that it's uncomfortable. You could suffocate; you won't know what's goin on while you're asleep.

not a good idea, you breath through your mouth because you arnt getting enough o2 through your nose .if you tape your mouth shut you wont get any o2, witch will put way to much stress on your already weak heart. just use mouth wash every morning. best of luck
