I had it for the first time this weekend, yum! I would like to try it at home. Thanks!

I have tried at least a half dozen recipes, and none compare to this one. In fact, its not a recipe. Go to Sams Club, in the freezer section, ethnic foods, and by the frozen general chicken. I couldn't believe how good it was for a frozen meal. In fact, I take some broccoli, green pepper, and sweet onion and stir fry just a few minutes before the chicken is done baking, and then I toss everything in a big bowl. I usually cook everything from scratch, its my favorite past time, but I gotta tell ya, this meal rocks. If you like it extra saucy, I buy the packs of gen. tso's sauce that you mix up, they are found in the chinese food isle. They look just like the little packs of gravy. good luck, I hope you try this!

General Tso’s Chicken

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients:

1 1/2 pounds chicken, boneless, 3/4 inch cubes
1 egg
1 cup flour
oil for frying

Sauce:

3/4 cup water
3 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons white vinegar
3 tablespoons Mirin (sweet rice wine)
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons chilli paste with garlic
10 black peppercorns

1 tablespoon oil for vegetable stir fry
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh ginger root, shredded
5 stalks bok choy, sliced against the grain
1 green bell pepper, seeded and cut into short strips
1 red bell pepper, seeded and cut into short strips

Preparation:

Beat egg in a small bowl and put flour in a separate bowl. Dip the chicken in the egg, then into the flour and fry in oil until light brown. Set aside.

In a bowl combine water, soy sauce, cornstarch, vinegar, wine, sugar, hoisin, chilli paste and peppercorns. (Note: If you desire a saucier GTC, increase the sauce ingredients by half.)

Heat the tablespoon of oil in a wok or large skillet and add the garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for a few moments and add the bok choy and peppers. Stir-fry for only a minute, undercooking the vegetables.

Add the sauce and stir until thickened then add the chicken to heat through and coat.

Serve on or with rice on the side.

The other writer is correct about going to Sam's.
Many Chinese food is just not worth the trouble making
it yourself, especially in small portions. You would need to
buy several ingredients and spend high amount of time in preperation and not achieving the results.
One trick in Chinese food is the equipment. Even you have
the exact recepe, but do not have one of those "Torch like" wok stoves, your dish still won't turn out correctly. It's kind of like trying to deep fry in warm oil, you just won't get the right result.

A good General Tso's Chicken takes 2-3 battering process with Eggs and Flour. Batter, let it set, then batter again. Finally deep fry to crisp. Then you'll have to make the soy based sauce (2-3 type of soys and bean paste, sesame oil, light garlic) with lots of sugar. See what I mean? Just go to Sam's, or any Chinese Restaurant. Try other Chinese recepes that takes less prep work is what I am suggesting. Good luck to you.

I'm assuming you mean General Tso's Chicken, I found two recipes. Giving you both because of the differences in the two.
General's Chicken
Serves 4

16 oz. chicken breast
Salt and pepper to taste
1 egg
4 tsp. cornstarch
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. olive oil
Vegetable oil (for frying)
8 dry chili peppers
4 cloves chopped garlic
1 tsp. chopped ginger
2 chopped green onions
1 oz. soy sauce
3 oz. sugar
3 oz. vinegar
1 tsp. cooking wine

Slice chicken into 2 oz. pieces and season with salt and pepper.
Mix egg, cornstarch, baking soda and olive oil. Coat chicken well. Fry in vegetable oil until golden brown.

Add 1-tsp. olive oil and dry chili peppers to a hot wok. Stir-fry until peppers turn dark brown. Add garlic, ginger and green onion.

Add soy sauce, sugar, vinegar and cooking wine. Thicken sauce with 1-tsp. cornstarch mixed with water. Stir-fry until sauce thickens.

Add in chicken and coat in sauce.
**** And the other:
4 Chicken legs with thighs
1/2 c Soy sauce
1/2 c Distilled white vinegar
1 clove Garlic; minced
1 tsp Ginger root; Peeled & minced
1 tsp Cornstarch
1 lg Egg; beaten lightly
1/3 c Corn oil
4 Dried hot chilis; seeded

Bone the chicken legs, including the thighs by scraping the meat from the bone, working downward and keeping close to the bone. Pull the meat down over the bone (pulling it inside out like a glove) and cut it free from the bone. Discard the skin and cut the meat from each leg into 6 pieces.

In a bowl combine the soy sauce, vinegar, 1/2 c water, the garlic and ginger root.

In another bowl, combine the egg and cornstarch and dip the chicken pieces. Heat the oil in a wok or deep, heavy skillet until very hot, add the chicken and fry it for 4 to 6 minutes, or until it is crisp. Transfer the chicken with tongs to paper towels to drain and pour off all but 1 T of the oil from the wok. Add the soy sauce mixture, the chili peppers and the chicken and cook the mixture over moderately high heat for 2 minutes, or until heated through.

Transfer it to a heated serving dish. Serves 4.

It is common these days for General Tso's Chicken to be served with a garnish of steamed broccoli, or with green and red peppers, baby corn ears, or other vegetables included. If you're going to use vegetables, steam them separately and add them when you combine the chicken, peppers, and sauce.
