I would make a treasure chest cake - basically a sheet cake, iced with chocolate icing, and then pile up the middle with "jewels and coins and booty" - i.e. - Candy necklaces, the ring suckers, candy coins.
I would serve "Pirates pizza" - basically pizza, just call it "Pirates pizza" - kids that age will buy into it if you say it. LOL

You can't have a pirate party with out all those chocolate gold coins! sister in law threw a pirate party had a treasure chest pinyata filled with those chocolate gold coins! kids loved it! the cake could be as simple as a treasure map, or a full on boat with little popsticks as a plank etc. you can also get little gummy diamond rings for snacks. you can do little pikelets (or small pancakes) and use an black icing tube to put eye patches on your pikelets and turn them into little pirate faces. hope this helps!

pirate /treasure hunt party food
Pirate's Booty! This tasty snack is a fun way to kick things off. Pirates lived on the sea and their diets were rich in seafood and fish. If your guests are adventurous, serve fish and chips with tartar sauce or malt vinegar. Picky eaters will surely enjoy fishsticks and tater tots.
To prevent scurvy, make a citrus-packed fruit salad or serve wedges of pineapple garnished
with maraschino cherries and tiny mandarin orange slices.
pirate / treasure hunt party drinks
Watermelon, Strawberry, and Mint Smoothie (serves 2)
• 2 cups diced peeled seedless watermelon
• 1 1/2 cups diced strawberries, frozen
• 1/4 cup chilled guava juice or guava nectar
• 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint
• 2 small strawberries (for garnish)
• Fresh mint sprigs (for garnish)
Combine diced watermelon, frozen strawberries, chilled guava juice, and chopped mint in blender. Puree until smooth. Pour smoothie into 2 glasses. Top each smoothie with strawberry and mint sprig and serve.

Where's the Grub?
Serve finger foods that are easy and fun for children and keep it simple. A fun idea that children love is peanut butter and jelly on party rolls. These are just kid sized!
For a Pirate Party (depending on ages and time of party) below are some ideas:
1. Submarine Sandwiches
2. Fish 'n Chips
3. Chicken legs (or chicken drummies)
4. Tater Tots
5. Cheese and Fruit on skewers (swords)
6. Gold Fish crackers (of course!)
Add some small snacks like potato chips, cheese cubes and mini chocolate chip cookies. Serve party food on Pirates theme paper products for easy clean up!
The Birthday Cake!
Make your own theme cake using a Pirates Cake Kit or Edible Image (if you have the time and talent). Last resort...order a theme cake from your local bakery or grocery store.
