A blood clot, or Thrombosis, can be caused by many things. Some of the reasons might be; heart failure, physical inactivity that retards cirulation, a change in the shape or inner surface of the vessel wall (such as atheroscleroris caused by high cholesterol), a mass that has grown inside the body and put pressure on the vessel wall, an injury to a vein, surgery, cold, inflammation, or infection. The vein may be okay but the blood thickens in a reaction to the presence of a foreign serum such as a snake or spider bite. One of the most common causes is immobility. When you take long car rides, or plane rides, you should stand up every hour if possible to allow circulation to return to your legs.

Blood clots can be caused by many things. High levels of haemoglobin in your blood is one possible cause and that has nothing to do with cholesterol.
