What are HPV and HIV similarities?

How do they differ from each other and what makes them the same? How dangerous can be one end.. or the other?

HPV (human papillomavirus) and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) do have some similar characteristics as well as some different ones.

HPV and HIV are both viruses and have NO cure. There are treatments for both HPV and HIV, but no cure.

HPV and HIV affect both males and females. However, HPV usually causes more health problems for females. Cervical cancer is the most common kind of cancer HPV causes, and obviously that just affects females. HIV though decreases your bodys immune system which makes a person more susceptible to contracting other STDs.

HPV can be deadly, HIV is NOT. HPV can cause cervical cancer in women, which is the second deadliest cancer in women (after breast cancer). HIV is NOT deadly, but HIV does eventually lead to AIDS. There is no cure for AIDS and eventually a person with AIDS will die (usually from complications with other illnesses like the common cold or pneumonia).

HPV is contracted by sex (vaginal, oral and anal) and by direct skin to skin contact. A baby can also be born with HPV if the mother has the virus but this is REALLY rare. HIV is also contracted by sex (vaginal, oral and anal) but is NOT contracted by skin to skin contact. HIV can also be passed to a baby if the mother has the virus and HIV can be spread other ways too. HIV can be spread by sharing needles and syringes and by blood transfusions (less common today then it was back in the 80s).

HPV and HIV are two COMPLETELY different viruses. First off let me say both are sexually transmitted and 80% of people are exposed to HPV at some time in their lives. For most a healthy immune system can clear the hpv virus and it will not do any harm. Basically like the chicken pox, you get it once and your body keeps it under control and it won't come back. HPV is a virus that causes cervical cancer and genital warts. There are about 30 strains of hpv that are sexually transmitted. There is a new vaccine gardisil out that will protect you against 4 of those 30 strains. (these are the most dangerous strains that lead to 70% of cervical cancer and 90% of genital warts) HIV weakens your immune system and eventually turns into AIDs and kills you.
