It's a gathering of people we invited from the neighborhood. We have never met any of them. What should I serve? I don't think BBQ is appropiate since the party is in the mid afternoon and there is still snow on the ground. What kind of fingerfoods would you serve?

Smoked Salmon and Dill Egg Salad Tea Sandwiches 6 eggs 2 ounces smoked salmon, finely chopped 2 teaspoons chopped dill 2 teaspoons nonpareil capers 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons mayonnaise 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 14 slices sturdy white sandwich bread 1/4 cup chopped chives, for garnish Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Place over high heat and bring to a boil. Boil the eggs for exactly 4 minutes. Remove from the heat and let sit 10 more minute before draining. Run under cold water and peel the eggs immediately - the shell will come off much more easily while the eggs are still wet and warm. Using a box grater, grate the eggs on the shredder side into a bowl. Add the salmon, dill, capers, 1/4 cup of the mayonnaise, salt and pepper. Mix well. Lay out 7 slices of the bread and spread 1/4 cup of the egg salad onto each slice. Cover with the remaining bread slices. Trim the crust off of all the sandwiches and cut each sandwich crosswise into four triangles. Spread the long side of each triangle with a little mayonnaise and dip each one into the chopped chives. Arrange decoratively on a platter.

I went to a house warming a couple of days ago. There were two different kinds of deli meat trays and a cheese tray with assorted cheeses. There was an assortments of sandwich rolls to build your own sandwich. ( white/ wheat) Also two different kinds of mustards and mayo. Sides were potato salad and cold slaw. The table was decorated for Valentines, but a St Patricks's theme would be nice .... all green and white. I noticed some ladies watching carbos were grateful the sandwiches were not pre-made and they could forgo the rolls. At the end of the party, there was just a little cheese left... so it was a hit!

During the summer months some of us neighbors often has a Pot-Luck party and this has work well for us here, also it is a chance to sample each party guest food.

Other than that I guess being you have snow on the ground then perhaps you should offer chili dogs or even for that matter have a chili cook off party.

Have finger foods. Egg salad and chicken salad sandwiches would be good. Something that doesn't require to much preperation. A veggie tray would be nice too. Have a variety of cheeses maybe on a nice cheese tray. For dessert, puddings or cookies.

I'd prepare a cheese platter and a cold cut platter - close to it, you can place a basket of good quality bread. I'd also include a spinach (or broccoli) frittata (like spanish tortilla but made of green veg) and a raw veg salad (you can put lettuce, arugula, cherry tomatoes and shredded carrot). Some sweet and savoury muffins, a nice fruit platter. Coffee and tea. Simple but colourful and varied.

Easy & light food. Appetizers, dips, chips, veggies/meat/cheese trays. Its early so you dont want dinner spoiled. Check Costco for oven apps. Paper/plastic products a must. There are nice ones out there. Dont forget the kids. Make sure you have enough ranch. They love to dip ! Have a great time !
