I know of three: (1) Gestational diabetes, which only affects pregnant women while they are pregnant, (2) Type I diabetes, which is the type that people are born with and requires them to take insulin all their lives, and (3) Type II diabetes, also known as adult-onset diabetes, which is caused primarily by eating an unhealthy diet.
Diabetes is a condition where the body cannot properly metabolize sugar in the blood. In a "normal" human being, the pancreas releases insulin whenever needed to metabolize additional sugar in the blood that comes from the food we eat. When the pancreas doesn't produce or release insulin for whatever reason, diabetes is the result.
