You can call yourself a vegetarian and eat meat, you'd be lying but you could do it. You "can" eat anything you would like to, as a vegetarian you "choose" not to eat meat.

Some vegetarians choose to eat fish, chicken, eggs, and/or dairy products. I am not one to argue with them about their choice of label.

Typically, a vegetarian who refuses to eat eggs or dairy products is called a vegan. But, it could be argued that only vegans are true vegetarians. Veganism even goes further than just diet though; a true vegan will not wear animal products like leather and/or wool.

What I get upset about are the vegetarians who preach their views toward others. It's a label and a lifestyle choice. I have been vegetarian for 17 years, vegan for six of those. Newer vegetarians tend to preach, as do born again christians, because they believe they have found the proper way to live, and they want to save everyone. Just remember it is a personal lifestyle choice, and labels mean very little.

A Vegetarian, if they so choose, will often eat things like dairy and eggs.

A Vegan, however, does not eat any meat, dairy, eggs, or any kind of animal bi-products... but strickly a fruit, veggies, beans, etc kind of diet.

So the answer all depends on which lifestyle you want to be.

Good luck! :)
