Wow.
All I can say is wow.
Nothing is lost either way you slice it. Perhaps in a diaganol cut, because it slants from smaller to larger, the halves of the sandwich look smaller. With the sandwich that is cut into rectangle halves, I suppose it looks as if there is more because everything is the same size.
Who knows.
Bottom line is square, triangle, or rectangle... the mass stays the same.
Unless you have a hungry knife.

A whole sandwich cut any direction is still a whole sandwich. Personally, I prefer a sandwich cut diagonally, it gives a better place to start biting.

Very interesting.
Theory: Sandwich is same weight but squished due to tighter squeeze needed to hold sandwich down with diagonal cut.

The reason it seems like you have more is because of the size of bites you're taking. Depending on the cut, you get bigger or smaller bites, therefore creating an illusion that there is more or less sandwich. There is no way that the angle of the cut would erode the sandwich.

1/2+1/2=1. No matter how you cut it, it's still one sandwich. Maybe it's easier to eat it when it's cut diagonally, so you eat it faster, and you're still hungry because you eat fast.
However, it's still one sandwich.

It is nothing but optical illusion, you are so use to looking at your sandwhich cut in a certain way for so long that cutting in a different way makes it seem smaller, give it some time and you'll get use to it. But be assured no amount of your sandwhich is lost no matter how you cut it, it's how you look at it. So relax and enjoy your sandwhich.

LOL, you obviously don't lose any more sandwich when cutting it diagonally.. unless after you cut it diagonally YOU THROW HALF OF IT OUT.

Weigh them before and after on a kitchen scale. There shouldn't be any difference.
You probably feel cheated because you get a few "little" bites when you eat the pointy parts.

I have the same feeling but it can't be true. I even hate to cut it at all. When it is whole I feel that it is bigger. I understand you very well.
