The Expo brand markers (Made by Sanford) contain the following according to lsu.edu:

Methyl Isobutyl Ketone
and
N-Butyl Acetate

The Ketone puts out the distinct odor of the Dry-Erase Marker.
Don't know of any long term effects, but sniffing (huffing) them is definitely a brain-cell killer.

The MSDS doesn't have too many precautions... the only ones that are obvious are "Do not shake" them and "Store them horizontally".

The MSDS also states "This product is considered safe under normal use conditions." This info is from the National Institute of Health (I'll leave a link below).

The MSDS also lists the ingredients slightly different:

Fragrance(s)/perfume(s)
Ethanol/SD Alcohol
Butanol
Resin (unspecified)

----

So it's tough to say if they're dangerous. If you use them just to write on occasion... it's probably safe. If you use them all the time, who knows. Read the info for yourself and make your own judgement.

Good luck.
