It might accidentally be vegan but as a general rule it should be avoided since animal ingredients are often used as a part of it or in the processing of the material. Search the resolved question database here for more details or run a web search on "gum base" and you'll see what I mean (my bandwidth is limited or I'd do it for you).

Bottom line: If and only if the label states vegan gum base avoid the product!

Gum base may or may not be vegan. So don't listen to these people with their "I think." What you want is I know.

To be certain, you'd need to call each and ever gum manufacturer you wanted to buy from. Long ago, all gum base came from tree resins.

But we've killed off all those trees. So now gum base is artificially manufactured. From what though?

If the gum is not marked vegan, do not trust it.

Why would only the base be important? The other ingredients matter too. Some of the most common ingredients in gum are sodium stearate, potassium stearate. Stearates usually are animal derivatives.

If you buy it at a convenience store Im pretty sure it is not made from trees. It uses gum base which is made from rubber and plastic. Dont worry though the G-ment said its healthy. Though I do not believe plastic and rubber are part of a vegan diet

I think the gum base is from plants but what you need to watch out for is gelatin, a lot of gums have it in them. I read tons of gum ingredient lists to try and find one without gelatin or aspartame (bad artificial sweetner), none of the ones you find in regular stores pass the test (some have both, others just have one). So if you want a vegetarian gum, just get one without gelatin in it, but if you want a totally healthy gum you should go to a health food store or look online.
