I had to give up meat because of developing meat allergy. I still eat milk and diary products, eggs and similar.
My problem is: I'm SO sick of this type of food!!! I miss my meat! What can I do? They soy substitutes taste like crap. I'm trying to eat fish, but I never ate them before and I don't really like them.

Oh, dear, I can soooooo relate. Same situation as me. Do you have other food allergies? For me, I am allergic to the meat protein, so even organic meat is not an option. Email me and tell me what your specific allergies are, and I might be able to help you a bit. I am also allergic to wheat, eggs, soy, commercial dairy, nuts, tomato and avacado, so my food choices are quite limited. I recently started hanging out in the ethnic section, and have come up with some super cool ideas. Now that I have reframed my way of looking at it, its much easier. If you have other allergies, you may just be reacting to the toxic crap that is injected in meat. Organic meat, or alternatives like bison, emu, ostrich, etc. might work for you. You can read more about the stuff in meat on my blog at http://360.yahoo.com/profile-8un2KqU5fqcymrT5VxB0z8D4HEMAF4PLG8OJLQ--?cq=1

I hope this helps-same exact situation as yours. Email if you want to

My condolences, especially since soy makes _me_ puke. (I can tell when people sneak it into my food.) I know that feeling, you've eaten and you're full but you still have those pangs for a hamburger.

If you can (both for lack of allergy and the price), try shrimp. The larger ones have the fleshiness similar to meat.

And when you say "meat", do you mean only beef? What about fowl, mutton or pork, are they edible? Sheep tastes almost the same as beef.

How about wild game? Some specialty shops sell venison or pheasant.

Instead of soy, try a variety of other beans and peas; I've made three and four bean chilis in the past (when I was broke) without meat that tasted as good and I never noticed the difference, not even in the stomach.

What type of food are you eating exactly? There are tons of vegetarian friendly foods. If you limit yourself, of course you will get sick of the same things all the time. Some faux meats do taste like crap but not all. Try Quorn products and expand your menu to include all sorts of recipes.

Being vegetarian should always be a personal choice, and there's not much point being one if you are just being forced. It is said that allergies go away by constant exposure to the substance causing the allergies IN SMALL DOSES AT A TIME. When I was a kid, I was allergic to sardines, but eventually got over the allergy when I was in high school (I'm vegetarian now, and don't miss meat at all, but that's beside the point).

Go back to meat if you have to.

Soy based meat substitutes aren't so good for you anyway. They're all chemical.

Have you tried grilled tempeh? Tempeh is a cake made from fermented soy beans. You slice it on the diagonal, marinate it then grill it. Also portobello is great for grilling.

There's also chicken, pork, bison...you have allergies to all meat, or just beef? I cannot imagine anyone having allergies to all meat.
