London Farmers' Markets run 12 farmers markets in London, (as at September 2002) and estimate that they bring £3 million pounds back to the rural economy each year. On top of this, many farmers are now establishing links with restaurants and other food outlets in London, selling to them directly. The markets provide the hub to make it viable to drive to London. Farmers can then sell at market and deliver to retailers. It is estimated that at least 50% of our farmers would not be in business if the London markets did not exist. Many farmers have cut out the middlemen and no longer sell to supermarkets. A number of London based independent food businesses such as artisan bakeries and preserve makers sell at the markets. They, and other secondary producers will often use produce such as fruit, cream and eggs, sold by the farmers at the markets.

There's a big farm shop near orpington. Not sure what the road is called but if you follow the signs for the M25 from Orpington it will take you past it. Coming in from the M25 it is on the straight stretch before you get to Orpington.
And i found these 2 on a search:

Borough Market near London Bridge is very good for cheese being made by the maker - for example Quicke's sell their cheese there. It's open on Fridays and Saturdays.
There is also Neal's Yard Dairy, round the corner from Borough Market, which is excellent for cheese

Yes, Farmers City Market is a new concept coming to London, which offers exceptional Fresh Produce direct from the Farmers and Growers themselves, ensuring they get a better margin for their produce. Farmers City Market's first store opened at Hampton Hill in December, and they will soon be coming to Chelsea, Notting Hill and Tunbridge Wells. To learn more visit www.farmerscitymarket.com . I also recommend you read through their press releases too, in order to get a wider prespective.

I see people have been mentioning farmer's markets.
I know there is one on Sundays just of Marylebone high street, which is quite good and has plenty of dairy produce/fresh eggs and so on (although it can be a bit pricey).
It is held in the car park just off Marylebone High Street (moxon street car park I think), and by underground the quickest would either be Baker Street or Oxford Circus or Bond Street.
Check on Street map for printable map.
