well, i am 15 years old, and i'm chinese so i suppose i am part of the "chinese young generation". and yes, we, er, at least, I am aware of traditional chinese cuisine. see, i go back to china every 3 years. i went back this past summer. my mom goes to chinese stores in our town and buys "real" chinese food, not the gross greasy stuff you often find in chinese restaurants. at home, everyday, i eat traditional chinese food: rice, chinese vegetables, cooked the chinese way. i always use chopsticks, and many of my friends are the same way. some of them like mcdonalds and burger king better than chinese food, but i personally prefer chinese food. REAL chinese food.

Most young Chinese still eat predominantly Chinese food. The difference between today and yesterday is:

1. More Western food, especially fast food.
2. Fast Chinese food.
3. Industrialization of food in China and the growth of the supermarket.

I believe the third one is having the biggest impact. Like in America, "fast" and "convenient" is taking over in China, and making it less likely that a Chinese person would know how to prepare all the different types of dishes with only the original ingredients (and not jars of sauces).

Moreover, availability of different regional dishes and refrigerated vegetables from all over China is changing things. So if "traditional" means cooking dabaicai and nothing but dabaicai throughout the winter in Beijing, then young people aren't traditional at all.

Yes. At least a lot of my Chinese and Asian friends are aware. Even though when we hang out at we're all eating fast food or at a restaurant. But at home with their families they are still very traditional with speaking in their own tongue and eating the foods that are accustomed with their culture.

If I told you, is it possible for younger americans to forget that the traditional american continental breakfast is simply an egg, a sliced potatoe, bacon, german sausages, couple "french toasts", is this possible?

....... in my own view, everytime I get a bowl of left over nasty white rice and boil it into congee, i feel this intense feeling that my forefathers did the same thing when he was hungry or his woman was angry. This is as traditional as it gets........

This is food for sick, for elderly, for baby, for hungry teens, for bad cooks, for angry wives, whatever! except this congee is not liked by westerns who think it tastes like grits without the sugar.

As is the same with chinese eating hamburger, thinking a steak is much more true but a burger is like instant noodles.......But Americans probably detest this idea of steak being the more traditional of the two for America, but the Queen would probably agree.

If you are thinking about marketed cooking like szechuan and mongolian, these are relatively new........or the "traditional" 4 or 8 styles, if my memory serves me right.

The dishes which judge a chinese cook are usually the most simple. Complex dishes from cullinary school, usually care about looks whereas unless your a dictator or politician -

~ any food to a chinese is good food, especially if your family can share the main dish, rice. That is tradition.

In fact to go along with the congee, a boiled fish is usually paired up to complete a basic meal of rice. A fish is bonus. Espcially making use of the fish head to brew a fish soup along with its stomach, is very traditional. Then feeding the bones to the cats, and then to poop into fishing ponds.... if you want to get real traditional.....

Now if you want to know some genuine chinese dishes which are marketed as traditional chinese, hot tofu with pork( ma puoa doa fu), turtle shell with ginger, hunan dishes, fujian bamboo fish, shanghai shrimp, the list goes on. But you have completely missed my cultures best dish. Simplicity in our main dish rice! and occasionally if you caught a fish or snared an animal.

i don't think so. As far as i know, in north of China, many young people like eating noodle which is the traditional food of China. And in south of China, many young people like eating rice. Of course, there are still many young people like fast food such as MC Donald、KFC.
General speaking, nowadays, not many young generation are aware about Chinese traditional food.

The fast food industry is wiping away the traditional food. In the countryside though families still keep the traditional food.
