I was wondering,
1) What made you become a vegetarian?
2) What you eat that is quite enjoyable?
3) How do you get all of the protein and nutrients that you need in order to stay healthy.

I just saw a movie called Our Daily Bread and was horrified by the military precision and lack of caring for the animals that were getting slaughtered. The butchers didn't seem to care at all about the comfort of the animals. They just slaughtered them with reckless abandon, and didn't even flinch when an animal was suffering and in pain. I am a very strong Christian and God has given us dominion over the animals, not just for our sick amusement or pleasure.

1) Natures dictates that humans are ominvores so we should eat meat, however, I became vegetarian when I realised that Western society violates nature for an easy life. The lives of animals farmed for meat are purely for human satisfaction, which is never ok, in countries such as Kenya where tribes hunt food as nature intended, I see no problem. Also it is better for the environment to follow a plant based diet as more energy can be produced per acre of plant crops compared to animal. I became vegan when I realised that it is not socially acceptable for adults to drink milk from the breast of their mother so why is it acceptable to drink milk from the breast of another animal.

2) Hmm foods that I enjoy, well bread is my weakness but then so is chocolate and the hotter and spicyer the food the better (including chocolate). I pretty much throw everything in a pan and see what the result is - I find that my cravings for particular foods at 3 in the morning actually throw out somw nice combinations.

3) As for the nutrients, just the 5 a day but then loads of nuts, seeds, dried fruit and pulses, wholemeal grains & bread - as a student this is great, cheap meals & beans on toast all round then

I was already partially on the way to be coming a veggie (no red meat, very little chicken, lots of fish) when I met and fell in love with my eventual wife and she gave me the strength to turn veggie. I then soon afterwards did my teacher training at an agricultural college which reconfirmed that I didn't like the way animals were farmed and made me even more hard line veggie.

I am a real foodie, I've always liked the texture of pulses and the flavour of nuts so I eat a lot of these. I love curry, especially potato and spinach (sag aloo) anything with aubergines in ti (eggplant to the US). I also love to cook and like to subvert normal recepies to vegetarian options. Canelloni tubes stuffed with cottage cheese, almonds and peas, cooked in a rich tomato and basil sauce for example. Use Quorn which is good, and just eat the things you love, and adapt those which aren't veggie.
Just eat sensibly, try to eat at least 3 or 4 food groups at a meal, and you will be fine. Much easier being a veggie now than when I started 20 years ago.

Or i'll convey my very own gardenburger patty. I devour a lot of fruit, too. 3)i purchase those reliable burritos with protein at Costco. Nuts are reliable and have protein, too. the final thank you to get each and all of the pronounced supplementations are diet fortified cereals or you are able to take a multivitamin.

when i realised i was cruelly murdering the other inhabitants of our world, i have been a vegetarian for over a year and a half and i feel so much better about not eating meat, i definately reccommend you join up with VIVA(vegetarians international voice for animals)- woop! go mungbean! i am gonna join up pretty soon,i havent yet though. i usually make my own soups, which are healthy (and taste better than the tinned ones) and meat-free. i am meant to be taking these pills that are the nutrients n stuff but they are really hard to swallow and every other vegetarian i know does not take these so i don't. hope this answers ur qiestions anyway =]

I was about to ask a similar question when I spotted yours. I've been reading a lot recently on the inhumane methods used in slaughtering animals and frankly I'm really getting turned off meat. I've researched and discovered that protein, iron and other essencial nutrients are easily found in nuts, seeds, cheese, milk, eggs, fish, bread and peanut butter etc. Good Luck to you. :-)

I am not vegetarian, I have been in the past...I am not a big meat eater but I do enjoy meat.

I quite enjoyed Bocca Burgers, they are a vegetable/soy based burger substitute that are very nice. They don't taste like beef, but with some seasoning and Worcestershire sauce they make a nice burger.

To increase protein and nutrients I found shakes with soy protein powder a good help. Tofu, eggs and soy are also good to add to your diet.
