I have been seriously considering going vegetarian, but have yet to try it. So what I have decided to do is give up meat for lent, just to see if I can handle it and if it is something I can maintain for the rest of my life.

I don't want to malnutrition myself, so I would like to know more about what vitamins humans NEED and in what foods I can find them in. Is it really necessary to take vitamins if I eat the proper foods? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I've been a vegetarian for 11 years, and I don't regret it one bit nor have I ever relapsed not even for a minute. I started out by eliminating a few meats not all or all of them and leave the one that you are least interested in eating. You don't want to go cold turkey on something because your mind will over power you, and you'll scarf down meat before Easter.

I've never taken vitamin pills or liquid. I'm totally against that; could also be because I've turned into a naturalist. In the beginning it was hard for me. I learned to find foods that had enough to get me by. Dark greens are awesome for iron...you should eat enough to have sufficient energy. Beans are the bomb. This may sound cliche but you'll be making bean soup sooner than you think. That theory thatt vegetarians don't get enugh protein is also a myth. Vegetables has the same proteins required fr the human body as do meat.

Eat at least one peice of fruit a day. Just explore all the vegetables out there. After 11 years I just found out about a couple new vegetables that I've never heard of but they are hundreds of yrs old and tried them the other day and LOVE THEM.

Let me know how it works out for you.

Even as a kid at Catholic school many years ago, I had qualms about "giving up" something for Lent. The idea originated as a type of penance, as did meatless Friday.

Skipping meat to enjoy crab or lobster does not seem very penitential to me. Similarly, giving up meat and pigging out on vegetarian food does not seem like a sacrifice.

If you wish to become a veggie, that is well and good. Look in the web for information, or get some good cookbooks. Try to find out what nutritionists say.

Vegetarians seldom have problems with vitamins and minerals, as these are found in the plants and other dishes they so commonly eat. The biggest problem is usually protein. You can get the proteins you need by eating plenty of legumes, such as beans, peanuts, and soybeans.

Some vegetarians eat dairy and eggs; others don't. Both are important sources of proteins (plus calcium and vitamin D in the case of milk), so you have to be extra careful if you cut these out.

Good luck!

Why do you opt for to bypass back? I almost wish i'd be a vegetarian, yet I merely couldn't supply up steak...and 1st Baron Beaverbrook...and hamburgers.....oh properly :( also for a first meat i might want to point fish becasue that is not as meaty as steak...yet steak truthfully tastes extra useful so in case you merely opt for to dive correct into being a carnivore back, I say gor for a youthful steak. Yum. Or i wager you would possibly want to be an omnivore now. yet you would possibly want to stay a vegitarian. imagine of each of the animals they ought to kill only for human beings to devour. and they have those veggie ingredients that are variety of like meat and fairly some them at the on the spot are not even undesirable

going vegetarian is one of the best thing i did for myself and animals.
you should worry about vitamin B12 and you can find that in soymilk.
the main thing is protein and vitamin B12
You should eat lots of nut and soy because they are full of protein.
If you eat the proper food vitamins aren't necessary but it really depends on the person.
I'm 16 and I became a vegetarian 8 months ago and I'm very healthy without vitamins but i do eat proper food so that is why I'm healthy
If feel that you need the vitamins then you should or talk to your doctor.
good luck and best wishes

A good suppliment is always a plus, although if you eat the right foods you will be fine. Trouble is that you cant really know if youve gotten all the nutrition you need.

Fish and shellfish are not considered meat in the Lenten fast.

They are also high in protein and low in fat.
