Our 10 mo old has a nasty cold and is all congested. We've tried saline, suctioning, decongestant drops, and a vaporizer, all of which provide temporary relief but don't keep her sleeping at night. Someone suggested adding Vicks Vaposteam to the vaporizer to clear up her airways. I've never tried it before and am a little skeptical, number one because I'm not sure that stuff really works and number two because the package indicates checking with your doctor if the child is under two. I know that camphor is some nasty stuff if ingested, but I'm not sure if such a small amount could be dangerous when breathed in all night. I'm not having any luck searchign the 'net for the answer, so I thougth I'd ask if any of you have heard anything about the subject, either from your doc or pharmacist...Thanks!!

Yes as a child my mother would put VickVaporizer in this cup on the vaporizer. I was asmatic and it was effective and even soothing. I am pretty old now and I survived perhaps a hundred nights of my childhood like that. However if baby has a temperature you should call Doctor in morning.

The best think to do is take your child to his/her Doctor... because it can get worst than it is right now... i personally would tell you to take her to the Dr before trying anything new that you are not sure about doing, or just give her Doctor a call and ask her by phone and she will tell you if its a good idea or if its better for you to take her to the office for a visit.. ... i take care of my baby cousin and when ever she would get sick my family would tell me to give her some over the counter medicine and some other stuff but i never did unless i would call her doctor or take her...
for little children's like that it better not to risk it

i have a strong preference for a cool mist humidifier with a pint of hydrogen peroxide in the gallon tank. I have used that with a 10 month old.
