My age is 51 years. No smoking, no alchohol, no blood pressure, no diabetes, no cholesterol. I went to see a doctor for complain of over acidity and I was advised to do several tests, including blood sugar, csr, stress test, sonography of abdominal, and a chest xray. I am told my acidity because of eating chilly hot food and more because of mental stress. In the xray they detected mild lv type cardiomegaly, that is enlargment of heart. I am just wondering how it can happen to me? please someone explain. I am very health consius person.

A few thoughts of cardiomegaly without overt hypertension -

1. You might have sleep apnea which will increase your pulmonary pressures and intermittently your systemic pressures(at least at night).
2. You could have had non-ischemic cardiomyopathy.
3. You could have a valve leak.
4. You could have an arrhythmia.
5. It could be a normal variant of an individual with a relatively large heart as would be expected from someone who does significant cardio workouts.

From your description, I would vote number five. An echocardiogram would help to answer the question of which if your cardiologists thought it warranted.

Good luck.

diagnosing cardiomegaly by a chest x-ray is a very inaccurate business, in order to really say anything worth saying about the size of your heart, you should get an echocardiogram, which can not only show the sizes of the heart chambers, but it can see the function and ejection fraction (a measure of how well the left side of the heart is working) as well. Diagnosis by chest x-ray, especially in someone like you with no symptoms and no risk factors, is pretty much worthless.

It can be genetically influenced.

BTW, the only people without blood pressure are dead. You mean that your BP is normal.
