If you're looking for a supplement alone, I highly recommend VegLife brand.

Do not listen to the people who tell you you don't need supplements. They are not doctors and don't know what may be inhibiting your absorption. Poor digestion. Deficiencies in other nutrients. Kidney disease.

Spinach was at one time a good source of iron. However, today it is a lousy source of iron.

Back in the late 50's spinach had 75 milligrams of iron in one cup of cooked leaves. By the late 80's we'd over harvested the land so much it was reduced to 12 mgs in one cup of cooked leaves. Today, iron is pretty much non existant in spinach. Why is that? There are 64 nutrients in quality top soil. We replace 16 of those with chemical fertilizers.

Tofu has more iron than spinach. Collard greens, turnip greens, kale, molasses, nutritional yeast, pumpkin seeds, watermelon, prune juice. These are all good food sources of iron.

Cooking in cast iron also helps. If you're eating a lot of dairy, please know that it inhibits iron absorption. A vitamin A deficiency can contribute to low iron absorption.

Raisins are also good for iron. Interestingly enough, this is because the grapes used to make raisins are dried on iron grates. Trace amounts of the mineral make their way onto the raisins. You can also cook using a cast iron skillet instead of a non-stick one.

If you don't want to take the iron supplement tablet then try eating spinach, beets, liver, and drink a small glass of red wine at night just to name a few.

Spinach and water cress. I also think Guiness has iron in it as pregnant women used to be advised to drink it. In moderation though.
