I have been a vegeterian for 3 weeks now. I was cooking chickken drumsticks and saw the chicken nerves and the broken bone and the whole idea just grossed me out. I also loves animals.

Overall, yes veggie burgers are healther than beef. However, it can depend on the burger.

Most veggie burgers weigh 2.5 ounces, or 71 grams, and have 70 to 170 calories each. A “standard” meat portion, in contrast, is three ounces after cooking. A quarter-pound of uncooked ground beef will yield a hamburger of this size, and it will have about 200 calories. However, many Americans eat considerably larger burgers. To eat a healthier regular burger, you could reduce its size. A 2.5-ounce regular hamburger contains about 170 calories, while the same size burger made of any kind of lean meat carries about 150 calories. Also, turkey burgers are healthier option than beef burger.

Be careful not to choose veggie burgers with too much sodium.

well- in terms of not being meat, they are of course healther as they are usually free of saturated fat and cholesterol too!. Most are lower in fat, and have less calories also. I agree with the person above about the bun. I generally have two veggie burgers (I like the mornigstar farms vegan ones) on either one whole wheat bun or as a wrap in a whole wheat tortilla. Sometimes I just skip the bun too.

They are healthier. They are much lower in fat, somewhat lower in calories, and they contain vegetables... which are good for you. Additionally, the fat they DO contain is vegetable based, so better for you, than the LARD that is present in a hamburger.

That said... there are MUCH healthier foods out there for vegetarians... but the "fake meats" are a great way to transition. You'll probably find yourself using less and less of them though as you get used to making vegetarian meals.

I don't know if they are any healthier, but I have had some pretty tasty ones. The Morningstar Farms Spicy Black Bean burgers are my favorite.

i also quit after making hot wings by cutting up the legs and realise i am cutting into a dead corpse, and it used to live and does not want to die and i'll be eating a dead corpse while animals are suffering so i was like fxxk this, and quit, that was 5 yrs ago, do not miss meat at all

The bun
The real problem with a hamburger is the bun. If you are eating too many carbohydrates then you MUST eat the veggie burger or a VERY lean one. If you are low carb then you just need to use low carb buns and you can have the JUICIEST, FATTEST, TASTIEST hamburger with cheese you want.

I love animals as well. I would not turn into a veggie because of it though. Veggie burgers are most likely better for you seems they don't have the fat associated with them. But I would think twice before obligating yourself to living off veggies for the rest of your life. That is just boring and I don't think it is even healthy to only eat one thing. Variety is the spice of life.
