Cystic fibrosis affects several other organs and systems in the body in addition to the lungs, although the pulmonary effects are usually the most prominent and are generally the cause of early mortality (due to infections mostly). In addition to getting thick secretions plugging up the bronchi, you get the same sort of secretions plugging up the pancreatic ducts, so the pancreatic enzymes that you need to digest foods (especially fats) don't get where they need to be (your intestines) to work and you get malabsorption (causing fatty stool and malnutrition). Often the same sort of thick mucous can interfere with reproduction (in males) and people suffering from CF often have trouble conceiving children.

Huh? DO you mean what other things does it effect besides the lungs? Well, it inhibits the body's ability to break down and absorb food, which means it is a lot harder for someone with CF to get all their nutrients and they are consequently ravenous eaters with little body weight.

i was engaged to a guy with cf and the way i understood it cf is where the mucas in your lungs is too thick to get up. if you have one lung than it is much harder to breathe and are most likely on oxygen. when you have cf you take meds and treatments to break up the mucas and to digest your food.
