Hi Sosu,

Rice Divine is delicious!!! There is also Rice Dream, which I don't like as much. There are many soy brands. Someone else mentioned Tofutti. But I'm pretty sure their little sandwhich cookies have egg in it so watch out for those.

Soy ice cream is also really easy to make on your own. 1 package silk tofu, 1/2 cup oil, 1/2 cup soy milk and about 3/4 cup granulated sugar. I added 1/3 cup green tea macha to mine to make green tea ice cream.

Toss everything in a blender. Blend til smooth. Then toss it in the freezer. Take it out and mix it a little here and there til it freezes up. Then take it out, let it thaw for about 20 minutes, put it back in the blender and blend well.

My next batch will be with powdered espresso and Wax Orchard fudge sauce. See link below. Wax Orchard fudge sauces are all vegan and diabetic friendly.

After your second time blending, you would pour the ice cream back into the container - spiraling the chocolate sauce (and nuts if you like) in as you go.

Some of you folks need to do some homework. Fasting does NOT necessarily mean abstaining from all foods. There are levels of fasting. Fasting means to remove something from your intake - as a sacrifice. It can mean you are skipping one item alone.

Some Christians fast by having one meal a day. There are some fasts that are just from an item we love, such as coffee. Catholics abstain from meat on Friday during Lent. Orthodox Christians fast from all dairy during Lent.

In Australia there are low fat yummy vegan ice cream from SoGood co. Strawberry, chocolate, caramel, mango swirl, ect and tofu deserts. all vegan also sorbets, read the side as some add dairy, but a few do not. AND pure chocolate does not have milk added, this added to dilute the pureness of the cocoa mixture or to make "dairy chocolate". so you should be able to eat chocolate if you read the ingredients.

Tofutti is the best!
Soy delicious is also wonderful
Rice Dream is another kind

You can find these at Giant Eagle and Acme, so I would assume other major grocers have them. Oftentimes, these items can be found in special sections near the produce. If you look in the ice cream isle instead, you might miss them.

Tofutti also has vegan (no dairy or animal) cream cheese, sour cream, cheese slices etc. etc. etc..

First off, you are not fasting if you are looking to enjoy some sort of ice cream substitute. A fast is when you abstain from food. It sounds like you are just going vegan for a while, which is good.

My advice, as an avid faster, to get the most out of your "fast", eat as many raw fruits and vegetables as possible.

If you are craving something sweet, eat a ripe banana, mashed with some raisins.
While you are "fasting" stay away from all processed foods, including soy ice cream. During your vegan diet, try making your own "ice cream" by blending fresh fruits and soy or rice milk, then freezing. I just did this tonight with papaya, but it also works well with bananas and mangos.

There are a lot of vegan ice cream substitutes, as people mentioned from tofu or rice. But since you are really fasting I suggest this instead:
Put a ripe banana in the freezer. It will turn completely black but this is ok. When it's frozen, peel off the skin with a knife, slice it up and eat it, it's as good as ice cream.

If you are close to a Trader Joe's, Whole Foods or something like it, you can find "tofutti" ice cream. It is made of Soy - totally dairy-free, without butterfat or cholesterol

Also, turtlemountain.com sells vegan ice cream.

Rice Dream, Soy Delicious, Cool Hemp and regular fruit sorbet, which is just fruits and sugar. You can buy good Haagen daaz raspberry or mango sorbet at regular stores and you can find the other brand at whole foods and health food stores usually.

I always thought fasting meant you didn't eat at all. *headscratch*

but okay then.

Yes. There is Soy Ice Cream. It's called SoyDream. Decent enough, but a bit expensive. =D Sorbet is cheaper.
