Any cough medicine that contains alcohol should be used carefully with children. Children are more susceptible than adults to adverse effects of alcohol... in particular the blood sugar lowering effects. We've seen cases of kids who come in non-responsive because their blood sugar was next to nothing.

Another problem with cough medicine is the narcotic component of some of them. If you use Robitussin with Codeine, you can cause your kid to stop breathing if you give the wrong dosage.

Other than that, I'm not sure what else they recommended against Robitussin use with kids. It should be noted they have not approved cough suppressants for kids under 6 months of age.

When ever you give a child anything you ask your peditrician first. Almost all medications recommend that on their product.Always be safe and ask you Doctor.
