Low blood pressure is only significant if you are having symptoms such as fainting, dizziness, tiredness, lack of energy, or anything else that can interfere with your life. Many people walk around with "low" blood pressure and never have a problem with it.

Healthy blood pressure runs between 90-120 over 60-80. Anything under 90 over 60 is low. And yes, low blood pressure not only exists, it is as dangerous as high blood pressure.

Low blood pressure is blood pressure that is so low that it is causing symptoms or signs due to the low flow of blood through the arteries and veins. When the flow of blood is too low to deliver enough oxygen and nutrients to vital organs such as the brain, heart, and kidney; the organs do not function normally and may be permanently damaged. It should be noted that unlike high blood pressure, which is defined on the basis of blood pressure alone, low blood pressure is defined primarily by signs and symptoms of low blood flow. In fact, some individuals may have a blood pressure of 90/50 and have no signs or symptoms of low blood pressure, and, therefore, not have low blood pressure while others who normally have a blood pressure of 130/80 may develop symptoms and signs of low blood pressure if their blood pressure drops to 100/60.

Jenna,

Yes - low blood pressure is real. The difficulty is that - what is considered low for one person, may be borderline for another. Most doctors consider anything under 90/60 as low. The factor they look at is historical information - to see how you measure over time. If you drop by about 20, that signals that you're probably having some issues.

Low blood pressure is commonly caused by drugs such as:

Medications used for surgery
Anti-anxiety agents
Treatment for high blood pressure or coronary heart disease (CHD)
Diuretics
Heart medicines
Some antidepressants
Narcotic analgesics
Alcohol

Non-drug low-blood pressure issues include:
Dehydration
Heart failure
Heart attack
Changes in heart rhythm (arrhythmias)
Fainting
Anaphylaxis (a life-threatening allergic response)
Shock (from severe infection, stroke, anaphylaxis, major trauma, or heart attack)
Advanced diabetes

Of course there's such a thing as low blood pressure! It's called hypotension. Normal range is 90-140 / 60-90. And within this normal range, we each have our own range of what is normal for each of us. To know if your BP is low, first you must know what is normal for you.

Just looked at some the BPs these other people think are normal vs abnormal. Oh my God.

120 over 80 is normal, worry of anything less
low pressure usually indicates blood loss, like cuts or amputation

There sure is! My mother suffered with this for years. Fortunately, she took her meds and never had any problems, but she HAD to take her meds. I don't knowwhat the reading would be to be considered "low."
