If you are military - everyone come as the wrong rank. Change of whose in charge is good for a person. Remembering you can not use official uniforms of course. (proper officer's Mom)

Otherwise - just camouflage everything ( a table where bowls blend with the tablecloth - now how funny is that) & have guest wear camo too!

My grandson just had an 'army' birthday party. Everyone came in Camo (or green/brown). His grandfather (ret'd AF) brought MRE's for the kids. The adults just had subs. The kids drank out of plastic canteens.

If the party is for adults:
Subs (for the Navy)
Cake decorated as grass/ground (the Army)
Guacamole & chips (Camo for the Marines)
Blue Jello Shots (for the Air Force)
Then fill in with fresh vegis served in Alum. Foil 'bowls'.

It would be cool if you could package your food like MREs (military meals). Or you could inform your guests that your having a BAND OF BROTHERS party. That should give them an idea of what to expect and to dress appropriately.

A serine field setting with beautiful tables and placeware.....
As the drinks are served....randomly fire weapons to simulate the enviorment of warfare....
When Dinner comes serve cold in Mre Bags with no silverware...
Serve Dessert a Chocolate Cake for every table .... it should explode at a random time....

For the after dinner drink ... activate the sprinkler system at a random time.

This I belive would be an accurate Millitary party...Leaving your guests either hardened war vetrans...or leaving you in jail , either way a truly remarkable party.

Invitations:
Outside:
~Attention Troops!!
We are on a mission to celebrate "name" birthday

Inside:
Date:
Base: Use your last name i.e.: Boardman Army Base
Time: use 24 hour clock
RSVP: Base Commanding Officer
Wear your camouflage clothes and be prepared for troop training

Decorations:
Green, black, and tan balloons and streamers. Hit the surplus stores or your garage for netting, tarps, ammo boxes and other interesting things. Cover the table with a canvas tarp. Serve the cake on tin plates. Serve other foods out of helmets and drinks from an aluminum coffee pot. If you have one, use an old canvas tent or a canvas tarp to shade the food area. Use canvas cots for seating.

Food:
Serve MRE's available in military surplus stores.

Cake:
Can't See Me Cake: Sheet cake decorated in camouflage. Use splashes of dark green, tan and black.
OR
Decorate a sheet cake with a terrain type look. Add Army men or other troops.

Goodie Bags:
To hold the goodies use camouflage bandanas, green bags or plastic helmets. Put in Army men, compass, toy binoculars, canteen, paper airplanes, dog tags (make with string or yarn and tag board covered with foil, add their names with permanent marker). If not too much, you could even purchase olive colored shirts.

Games and Activities:
For the games have this be like a training course. With each activity the kids gain points and rank. They will all start out as privates.

Rope climb: From a tree or swing set. Time the kids going up.

Tug of War: Make two teams, kids will get the same amount of points for the winning team.

Pack up relay: Find or borrow full size backpacks and things that would go inside (canteens, compass, pack of food, plate, etc). You will need one pack per team and one item per person. Have the teams line up with their pack. The first person must run to the pile of item #1, with the pack on, put it into the pack, put the pack back on and run back to their team...continue through teammates.

Agility Course: Set up a small course. Plank to walk/run across. Tires or inner-tubes (could also use pool type ones) to step / run through. 5 gallon buckets with poles taped across to crawl under. Thing to climb or jump over. Time each child. Could even do this with the pack on for the older kids.

Army Men Hunt: Hide plastic Army men outside and let the kids find them. Can score by how many they get.

Other Ideas:
Arm Wrestling Competition
Water Fight to cool off - Use the grenade water balloons. Put up barricades for the kids to hide behind.

Decorations

Decorate the room in camouflage colours using earth tones like brown and dark green.

If the party is outdoors, help the kids make a tent using sticks and sheets that they can camouflage using branches and leaves.

You could even go all out by draping netting along the walls or yard, which you can buy from a surplus store.

Food

For the cake, you can easily decorate it with plastic soldiers, setting a military scene in the icing.

A great idea for an Army Party is to make cupcakes with green icing. Decorate the tops with yellow icing or lollies arranged like army stripes.

You could also serve cake, biscuits and lollies in a “survival kit,” along with a canteen of cordial.

Another fun idea is to use biscuit dough for the kids to make “Army Medals” that can cook while they’re playing. Award the children their tasty medal at the end of the day.

Games & Activities

Marching Drill:
Have the kids take turns of the leading everyone in line. All those who follow the leader have to mimic the actions as they go – raising arms, skipping, etc.

Obstacle Course:
Make an Obstacle Course in the yard by using cardboard boxes to crawl through. You could have the guests run a course using old tyres to step over, or by using hula-hoops laid down on the ground. With sticks set in the ground, you can run string between them for pretend barbed wire that the troops have to crawl under.

Tents can also be arranged throughout the yard with a different activity in each tent. For a fun military feel, have the children carry a service card that is stamped after each activity before they move on to the next tent.
