If this is for the heart it is called an angioplasty with stent. They also use stents in the large arterys like the femoral artery as well as to the kidney. The purpose of the stent is to hold the vessle wall open and to increase blood flow behind the area. This greatly decreases the risk of a heart attack. In many cases it can prevent open heart surgery. The stent is kinda like the spring in a pen. It is usually coated with some type of medication to help prevent clots. It is put in by going in the femoral artery in the groin and threading a catheter into the heart and into the appropiate vessle, This is where the angioplasty comes in. Dye is injected to see the exact spot of blockages.and the stent is placed there. Unless there are problems most people either go home that day or just overnight in the hospital. Depending on the type of work you do, you might only need about a week off.
I hope this helps you, I don't know a web site but I spent along time as a ICU nurse.

Have you considered getting the surgery done overseas? In countries like India, Thailand, Singapore, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Brazil and Argentina, they do it for much cheaper as compared to the US. If the hospitals you go to are JCI/JCAHO/ISO accredited then you can receive services that meet or exceed US standards and the facilities are world-class.

To get detailed information about the procedure along with the pricing, etc., check out Healthbase (http://www.healthbase.com). It's a medical tourism facilitator that works only with quality hospitals abroad. A friend of mine used their services for her surgery in India and she ended up saving 80% even after adding up her travel and other related costs. They have a lot of resources online you might find helpful. They hook you up with a surgeon who can help you answer your questions and solve your problem even before you fly.

Hope your boyfriend gets well soon!

There is no difference between an angiogram/angioplasty for men verses the same procedure for women.

The Mayo Clinic has a very nice web site that gives authoritative information about a variety of health topics.

Here's a link on your topic:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/angioplasty/HQ00485

Along with a short video
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/coronary-angioplasty/MM00048

There has been some imprtant discussion about drug-eluting stents verses bare metal stents in the news recently - go to this link to see a discussion on this matter:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/drug-eluting-stents/HB00090

As you will see there are other links associated with the topic. You might try the American Heart Association and Johns Hopkins web sites too.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Have you considered medical treatment and surgical help for this in India? My cousin got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare in India.
She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as all types of medical treatment and surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your medical treatment and surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
