You can give up meat for lent..you are going to find most of your protein in beans and nuts. Also, the egg yolk has protein in it. If you are not eating meat, there are many food Veggie meats that you could try... you can find these meat replacements at Wal-Mart. I like the BOCCA brand. They may take some getting used to but, I think they are really good. You can also do alot with TOFU (you wont believe what some spices can do) If none if this works... I am sure there are protein supplements out there. Talk to a GNC dealer. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Yes you could- eating beans, lentils, avocado have proteins. You will not harm yourself. There will be many suitable answers here.

My challange to you- and pray about this- is to give up something far more important to God. Give Him 1/2 hour of your time every day or eve before bedtime... and read the gospel of John, a chapter a night (easy to do) and if you finish this prior to Easter, then begin the Gospel of Luke. Simple... thats all, eat all the meat you want as this will be a far more striking gift to God and always remember, His gift on the cross was the greatest gift of all for you. This is the ticket... go ahead and make His day!

Hey

Here is the vegan food pyramid
http://www.vegsource.com/food_groups.htm
You don't actually have to put that much effort into it. Simply put, if you are eating a variety of foods, you are getting all you need.

non-meat sources of protein
You would be surprised; most things have protein.

Some info on the protein myth... people really don't need as much as they eat... especially in the US. The government-sponsored food pyramid only suggest 2-4 oz of meat per day (not much.)
http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vsk/protein_myth.html

If you aren't sure what to eat, a good way to begin is to make foods you usually eat, but take out the dead animal and put in tofu or fake meats.

http://allrecpies.com also has some great vegetarian recipes.

Good Luck with Lent!

The same way billions of vegetarians do. Meat does not have any good fat. It is saturated and unhealthy. You need unsaturated fat, like in olive oil. Many foods besides meat have plenty of protein, and Americans eat too much protein anyway. Besides, Lent is so short that even if you ate almost no protein, it wouldn't make any difference.

Giving up meat is not as "healthy" as some misguided folks will have you believe.

Focus on a high protein diet, eggs, legumes, dark greens.

Even though I'm a dedicated omnivore (like humans are supposed to be!) I still enjoy tofu. Buy the firm tofu, cut into one inch cubes and marinate in teriayki sauce (I like Soy Vay brand). Then broil or even grill in a basket, turning frequently. Serve with some more sauce and it rocks. Save leftovers for tomorrow's stir fry with veggies and brown rice.

You can give up meat for lent if you desire,
you can find most of your protein in eggs, beans and nuts. If you are not eating meat, there are many foods Veggies eat that you could try, like veggie burgers. If none if this works,
consider eating your neighbors cat. Stir fried with bamboo chutes, mushrooms, black beans and sesame, it is truly one of my favorites.
