My Dr. says if I do not lose 50 lbs, I will be diagnosed as diabetic. She says my body does not produce enough insulin to support 218 lbs. I am 5'7 and wear an 18. She wants me to get down to 170. She gave me Metformin to help control my sugar. I am working out at least 3 x a week and try to increase that to daily. I have stopped reg soda, only diet or water. I still have an issue with sweets and am working on that too. So, can I take Metabolife with this medication? I also wanted to include a green tea pill and I already take a water pill because I retain water a lot! Can I mix these 3? Any advise on how to mentally trick myself to get over chocolate?

numero uno: DO NOT DRINK DIET SODAS! it will fool your body into thinking you have taken in calories, when they arent there, it orders chocolate....quick and lots of it!
Two: DO NOT TAKE METABOLIFE! that will kill you quicker than being overweight! if it worked, doctors would tell you to take it, dont you think?
Three: Metformin will cause you to lose more weight than any of your other schemes. it works by correcting the bodies processing of sugar, which is why you are overweight. your body will start to burn fat for energy since the sugar it is used to will be absent. working out, eating right and taking the metformin should get you there faster than you think.

1) You will have a little less appetite on Metformin, so get ready with the raw veggie dips!

2) You are already a diabetic. That is why you are so big, your body can not process your diet. Accept this, and let it inform you.

3) There is no scientific data (at all!) that drinking diet soda helps loose weight.

4) Chocolate, in small doses, is an excellent food treat.

5) You don't need those pills for diet. Really, and I know I sound harsh, but you need to take this seriously, and join groups and take classes. This excessive Bg is killing you! And you could feel SO much better, and look so much better, and live SO much longer!

Your exercise needs to be 7 days per week, because you are so far overweight, and your body needs help metabolizing the sugar. Maybe after you get down to like 190, you could drop the exercise to 3x per week. They don't have to be long gym workouts, a walk will do. But it needs to be DAILY. Really, I mean that.

I wish you the best of luck with this, and I hope you can hear that this is a problem you can fix, and enjoy fixing, without hocus pocus pills.

Metformin Diet

I would check with your pharmacist or doctor about contraindications of mixing medications.

Depending on how long you have been on the metformin, you should be able just to lose weight by taking that pill. Some weight comes off naturally, it just doesn't happen overnight.. it takes 3-6 months.

Chocolate is good for you (although not your sugar) in small quantities, so try and find a natural chocolate that does not contain a lot of refined sugar. There are health food stores that carry that sort of thing, and I would try a bunch until you find something you can live with.

My best overall advice is: Moderation in ALL aspects of your life! It truly is the key to most everything that is 'important' in life. Be well and I wish you the best on your new path. Stay healthy!

Best thing to do is ask you doctor. Peosonally, I do not think it is advisable. Metformin lowers blood sugar by reducing gluconeogenesis, decrease absorption of glucose by the gastrointestinal tract and increase insulin sensitivity. A low blood sugar plus the diet pills might push you body into a more hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) state. Hypoglycemia is sometimes more dangerous than hyperglycemia. Stick to diet and exercise and exercise more self control. I know it is difficult but it has to be done. You just have to gut it out.

Honey I was in your shoes and I can only pass on to you what worked for me:

1. Cut out all processed carbs INCLUDING the wheat bread and brown rice the ADA and probably your doctor tells you is okay/good. In other words, this is what you eat: fresh veggies, fresh fruit, and a little bit of fish, nuts, beans, olive oil. Watch your numbers come down. You can get TONS of needed carbs from things like fresh spinach and carrots!

2. Metformin is nasty. Try to get your numbers down asap and get off of it - it puts a HUGE strain on your pancreas!! In fact if your numbers do not go down, insulin is better (it is natural).

3. Add swimming or walking in the pool - brings down your numbers, I swear, lowers blood pressure.

4. Test your blood sugar 6 times a day for the next 3 weeks. Really. You need to LEARN whic hexact helathy foods make you g ouyp down etc.

5. The weight will come off naturally on its own with the above.

6. Take up yoga, meditation, autogenics and/or hypnosis and practive it 3-4 times per day religiously. This will really get you focused off the sweets.

7. Eat dark chocolate instead! Get the 71% type. Actually, get this, I eat PURE chocolate with no sugar, no artificial sweets, etc. I mix it with espresso and dairy and STEVIA.

8. No diet pills! The stuff is pure crap.

8. Get all crap food: pasta, rice, canned foods, salty, etc out of the house.

9. Load up on fresh veggies. Start eating broccoli or bok choy for breakfast.

10. Keep superfoods around: fresh berries, avocados, tuna (non-mercury), raw almonds. Costoc has a lot of these at good prices.

11. LOVE YOURSELF AS YOU ARE.

Good luck!

Plan active dates together with your hubby, such as bowling as well as golfing, instead of dinner and also a movie.
