Panic, anxiety, physical activities, medication side effects. Maybe you just have a faster heartbeat than most. Normal is 60-100 beats a minute, but mine is only about 50. One of my friend's normal heartrate is 110 beats a minute.

Too much caffeine for starters.
Im not certain, and i am going to be watching this question as i have been noticing the same thing with myself. I have a doctors apt. scheduled for next week regarding it.
My heartbeat ranges anywhere from 75 bpm to 120bpm. Sometimes a little higher.
Does that sound high to anyone?

It's unclear what you're asking. Do you mean external factors or the physiological mechanism???

The term is tachycardia, a heart rate that consistently exceeds 100 beats per minute. It occurs normally in response to fever, exercise, nervousness and fear. Excessive caffeine and some medications can cause tach. Excessive cocaine and speed can cause it. Pathologic tachycardia accompanies anoxia caused by anemia, CHF, hemorrhage or shock. Other causes are hyperthyroidism, paroxysmal atrial tachycardia (PAT), supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), atrial fibrillation (A-fib), ventricular tachycardia (V-tach), ventricular fibrillation (V-fib) and mitral valve prolapse (MVP).

If you wish to know the specific mechanism, just ask me. But I don't think this is what you really wanted to know.
