I had the exact same problem. We did a ton of research online about whether I could be allergic to semen or something.. It's possible, but pretty unlikely. The only way to be sure is to book an appointment with a gynecologist who can look for more than just the stds/cervical cancer a pap smear administered by your doctor would.
The more likely reason is that the vagina is a muscle, so it can contract and extend an incredible amount. If you haven't had sex for a while, it naturally contracts, requiring more a bit force to penetrate. Obviously you're not using a condom (hopefully some other method of BC, though!), there's also going to be a lot more friction (skin on skin vs. latex on skin). Both of those factors combined would explain any pain afterwards. It's kind of like a mild rugburn.
The easiest thing to try would be using a LOT of lubrication. If you're not using any, start! If you're already using some, use tons more!

Good luck!!
