This happens all the time. That is what CPR is all about. Restarting hearts that have stopped beating. The short term effect is lack of oxygen to the brain but this is usually not long enought to cause permanent damage. I am not sure about the long term affects personally but you could research this on the web. Yes I know someone personally that this happened to. It was my best friend and it has happened twice to her in her life time. Both times she was already on her way to heaven when she was revived and brought back to life.

You die in the short and long term. If no CPR is started and no defibulation there is no oxygenated blood being sent throughout the body the body starts to die. It happened on Christmas day 06 . 66 Year old guy dropped in front of his wife and kids, 1st shock inside of 3 min, cardiac drugs pushed inside of 6 min, CPR all during this time, poor man died anyway. I am 0 for 10 in trying to resuscitate people who have coded.

Short term - death, long term - death, rigor, lividity
F.Y.I. getting someone back alive doesn't happen all the time. The success rate of CPR is very small but when the chance arises you need to give the person that chance. I would say that girl's friend is very lucky or she doesn't have the full story.
