I made hummus yesterday for the fisrt time and it just doesn't have very interesting flavor. It's also a bit thick. Can I enhance its flavor? I made the very basic recipe: chick peas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic and olive oil. And this was also my first time to eat hummus as well, so I don't know if it's supposed to taste that way.

to thin it out you could use more tahini but first thin that out using water and salt, mix well and add a splash of lemon juice...
Add that thinned tahini to your hummus and for extra flavor add:
cumin powder
a little bit of cayenne powder
some extra garlic salt

and always eat your hummus with extra virgin olive oil, sliced tomatoes and kosher pickles.

to give a creamy texture.. add about a tablespoon of plain yogurt to your hummus

enjoy!!

I love to take some roasted red peppers and some sundried tomatoes(the ones that come packed in olive oil) and put in a food processor untill mush, then I add my ingredients for a basic hummous. You coould still do this if you like, just add the humous you've already prepared to the pepper/sundried tomato mix. I also personally am not really a fan of tahini, try tahini on it's own, if you like the flavor add it if not just keep it out no harm no foul.

Depending on the amount of lemon juice you used, you might need to add more....You can add SALT and garlic, and maybe a tiny bit of hot pepper.

It is served with flatbread, but it is also accompanied by cut pieces of red onion, and pickled turnip (it looks bright pink in arab stores). Along with those things, you will get plenty of flavor!!!

Another thing...make sure you don't use too much tahini. It can make the flavor and texture bland and oily and pasty.
You can also use canned small fava beans called fool midammis (I know that is spelled incorrectly, sorry!) instead of garbanzo beans....very very good.

basic : lemon juice and garlic and olive oil and tahini
red pepper
more salt
chopped parsley
pine nuts
chili

have to be very careful not to put too much tahini
tahini has to be well beaten in mixer with water and lemon juice and then you add garbanzo beans( cooked, drained and rinsed)
just to crash them (not to melt them)

Did you add a little salt and pepper? I also add some finely chopped parsley. Just a little though. I like mine to taste a bit lemony...maybe that helps

Garlic, lemon juice, dill, Paprika... Cayenne or even a little Chipotle. I recommend using fresh, (As opposed to dried), herbs and garlic when possible.

I've always liked mine with a little bit of powdered cumin & chili powder. Add some more olive oil to thin it out.
