Any invasive procedure is a serious one and comes with possible negative outcomes. If you're talking about a Coronary Angioplasty is where they insert a wire (usually through your femoral vein- the one near your groin) with a balloon type attachment on the end up through your vein to the blood vessels in your heart. This is all done under the guidance of an x-ray machine. They will then put contrast in to see which blood vessel is narrowed from plaque. The dr will then advance the wire up so the balloon is where the narrowed vessel is, squashing the plaque and therefore making the blood vessel a bit wider and less likely to block. If you are having this procedure your doctor - the one who is doing the angioplasty, will explain the risks of the procedure and is the only one who should be telling you as part of consenting for the procedure. They should also be the one you talk to if you have questions about it. You can research it but dont take someones word on here about the risks as they may not be trained in that area and qualified to give that answer.
