where was it checked? some drug store testers give false readings if you are big . make sure to test with a large cuff.

A stroke is a primary condition waiting to happen. Has this person been under any other stress in the last week? Dizziness, blurred vision?
Get to a doc asap.

They risk having a stroke with blood pressure that high. It also puts an extra stain on the heart and the circulatory system.

well....they are lucky that they didn't have a stroke or heart attack....hopefully it is under control now and they need to be very careful with diet, exercise, taking their medication and monitoring the BP.....
