It depends greatly on the sweetener, but yes, it can. Stevia, Barley Malt and Brown Rice Syrup are the only sweeteners that I can have as a diabetic that doesn't make me react to it as if I've had sugar. Apparently, the tongue doesn't know that you aren't eating sugar, it sends it's signals anyway, so your body reacts accordingly and sends out insulin. Since Barley Malt and Brown Rice Syrup are actually made by boiling and reducing rice and barley, whole grains, you don't get the rapid rise in blood sugar that you do with other forms of sweetener. Good luck!

Oh, by the way, you can also use apple juice as a sweetener, as long as it hasn't been sweetened artificially. Hope this helps!

I have been a type 1 diabetic for 35 years and was told by the hospital that 1 sweetener tablet is equal to 1/2 a teaspoon of sugar. Same as 2 drops of liquid sweetener is equal to 1/2 teaspoon of sugar.

Artificial sweetners cannot affect blood sugar readings.They are artificially sweet so they don't have any glycemic index and doesn't have the ability to increase sugar level in blood.

My son has type 1 diabetes, we use splenda and his blood sugars levels are fine.

I was informed only black coffee or water after midnight for test the next day. It would be best to check with the nurse or you might just have to postpone to the following day.

The lab tec says it does make it go up. Use it in moderation. Use Splenda or Equal.

Im not sure but spenda and equal is to be used inplace of sugar.
